the real pisser came when on saturday night, someone broke into to the house and stole all my tools, new lighting fixtures, smoke/carbon testers, stereo and all kinds of other stuff...

shit happens a lot. burglars are always watching/tracking people that move. very easy prey. perhaps you should have made it all less obvious.
also, it could have been hinted to a burglar by the previous owner since you are having legal issues??
