Is there some way to find out the exact percentages of ink that a CMYK color is? For example I have this color, red, that is Cyan 27%, Magenta 96%, Yellow 100%,and Black 20%, HOW CAN THIS BE POSSIBLE? if I sum up all those percentages I get a lot more than 100%, is there some way to translate thse values to a set of values that sum up 100% exactly?

it is not 100% together. it is how much of the total amount of each ink is used.
so you can for instance have 100% cyan, 100% yellow, 100% magenta and 100% black.. for the deepest black possible..

I see, thank you.
Is there a color model, similar to CMYK that is specified as a percentage of the four values adding up to 100% exactly?

do you have OCD?
- turosatano0
is that some kind of sotware? No I don't.

LOL! what was the question?
- gruntt0
sorry i was just joking with ya. OCD = Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
I just picture you running around yelling "THE COLORS MUST EQUAL 100%! THE COLORS MUST EQUAL 100%!"

alright, sorry. No I don't have OCD, although I can understand the question is strange, but believe me, I am asking it for a reason. A bit long to explain.

in illustrator can you pick the pantone then hit the little square with the different colour sides and it changes it from spot to cmyk. Is that what you want?
- hiten0
forget it thats not the answer to the question.

you can also add up all the figures and call it 100% and calculate from there..
not too hard.

let me see, I'll open illustrator, thats an idea. I was only using photoshop so far.

4cy, yes that's more or less what I wanted. I thought there could be some color model that did it but I guess maybe not. Thanks very much.

im intrigued. what is this for?

use ratios to figure the values

(Mar 6 06, 07:39)simply.....no.
you can add all your inks up and divide it by 4. But that means nothing and is no use to anyone. There is no measurement like you are after which adds to 100%. The way you are measuring your ink at the moment is correct. Illustrator will give you the same if not very close result to what youre getting in photoshop.

maybe HSB (HSV) is something for you?

With a question like this, I certinaly hope you are a student and not a professional...
