When we walked out of the airport in Dubai into the 120 degree sunlight, it was like getting hit on the head with a wet halibut.
When we asked at the hotel concierge how to get down to the gold market they refused to give us walking directions and called a can for us, even though it was only like a 10 minute walk!

I've been approached a couple of times to go over there to work on some motion graphics / broadcast design projects but have always been busy with another job at the time to take the offer. I'd love to try it out for a couple months though.

I hope this doesn't come accross as a bit prejudicial. I think these are fair questions given current events in the middle east.
The Israeli - Palestinian conflict and the war in Iraq have portray the west, especialy the USA on a negative light in the arab world.
How does the average UAE citizen feel about westerners in general? After all 2 of the 9-11 hijackers are from the UAE.
I have not read about violent riots in Dubai regarding the Mohammed cartoon. Unless I missed something in the news that's a good thing.
Does Dubai have a secular government?
Thanks, this thread has been for the most part quite informative.

From what I gather many Arabs invested heavily in the US economy prior to 9/11.
Post 9/11 most Arabs have returned to Dubai and are now heavily investing in their own economy. They know their oil is about to run out so they've put all they can into devolping a city where people will want to / have to see in their lives. Building many of the next wonders of the world.
I don;t think theres much hostility towards east and west in Dubai. I'll soon find out though as I go there for a wedding 1st of April.
