Yay! I'm accepting a job offer today for this great position and will be in Boston by April 1.
I'll get to work in the South End for a very cool company. Now I just have to find a place to live. :/
Thanks to everyone for all the advice and humor.

Cool – welcome to Beantown! What kind of work are you going to do? As I'm sure you know, this is an awesome city, and you'll have a blast working in the south end.

Boston is a great city, with superb public transportation. My sister lives there and I visit a few times a year.
I unfortuantely don't know much about Southie, except, everyone looks like me.
So call everyone Worthless Micks and I'm sure you'll fit rite in.

(Feb 17 06, 06:11)Hehe, people from Boston talk like 3rd graders in remedial english class.
My old boss was from Boston and everytime he has a few drinks his accent breaks out and I start laughing uncontrollably.

some good towns to live in depending on your budget:
brookline + newton (both on the green line, but pricy)
allston/brighton – BU and BC territory, both on the green line, and relatively affordable
you going to have roomies or not? it's an expensive city

Congrats. As for the public transportantion, aaahhhhh your mind will change on that. But yeah, Boston is a great city. I live in Arlington, just outside Cambridge. Cheaper, and quiet.
What company are you with? I am always looking for new companies to jump off too.

Beautiful city
- GreedoLives0
Arlington is a dry town, don't live there.
Allston sucks, full of students, drunk idiots galore on the weekends, puke and blood in the streets, overcrowded and no trees.
Jamaica Plain, yo. We got the big apartments, its still sort of reasonable, we got a nice pond and lots of parks (Arboretum), JP Licks and the Sam Adams brewery. Your choice is clear.

awesome!!
all change! everybody is either leaving a job or getting a cool new one!
congrats!

wicked pissah, indeed! I'll be interactive designer/art director type for a software development company in the south end.
I know it's a little expensive. I'm looking for a 2bdrm in JP though have a good lead on a Newton place.
Gotta give my notice at my curent job now. :/
- pyeaton0
JP is awesome. I lives there for almost 10 years. Arlington is still cool even though its dry. I live right on the border with Cambridge so there are tons of packies within yards. I would get the shalkes if I didn't feel their existance close by.
JP is great. Careful with Newton. Not much there, and the commute would be a pain to say the least. JP is very cool. Don't forget that Doyle's is there. great place to tie one on, and go back the next morning for a greasie breakfast. JP does close really early though which i always thought was bizarre.

Greedo, you live in Jamaica Plain? I'm looking for a place there. Can I move in with you? :)
- tehgee0
all of boston closes too early when is last call? one?!
- monkeyshine0
ha! as I recall last call in boston is about 10 minutes after the last train runs. crazy city!
- pyeaton0
No kidding. I remember when closing was at 2. Everything has crept back to earlier times since Menino took over. If I feel like getting legless at 3:30 in the morning, I better have a bar to go to. Last call is getting to be 12:30! WTF!!!!!!!
- GreedoLives0
well they got the night owl now which runs till like 2:30 or so, night buses along the major T routes.
But yeah, it does shut down early.I'd let you stay with me, but my gf might have issues with that ;)
However, the two houses next to us are getting converted to condos/renovated right now, right on Green Street. Should be on the market by summer. Something to keep an eye on, good location.
Good to hear that you found that job you were looking for tho!
