I recently designed a small brochure ( i used PC and Illustrator) for a friend of mine. When he received the stuff he called me back telling me that the email and the website addresses were missing. So i checked the file and saw that everything was ok. So by the end of the story i forgot to convert the company address in outline text . When the file was opened in Mac the person at the printer company changed the missing font (univers condensed 8 pt) with the the standard font in illustrator (myriad 10pt) and the address changed from one line to two lines, but only the first line was visible and the printer thought that was ok ... I have to say that i gave to the printer a printing test of the brochure to be sure that everything was ok. So now the client wants to reprint and the printer say that it was also my fault. I said to him why he did not call me when he had the error on opening the file. The problem could be resolved in 2 minutes i said ..
So ... what you think ? (and sorry for the long story and my english)

its your fault, you should have had the printer produce you a proof of what would be printed, checked it and signed it off, and viola, no mistakes!
stupid boy, go into the corner!

Really, it's the printers fault as he shouldn't be modifying your artwork – if he was on the ball enough to spot an error, he should have called.
But on the other hand, you should have got a printers proof for you and your client to sign off – 99% of the time there's something there to change even at that stage.
Take the flak, pay for the reprint and it'll be burned into your memory enough for it not to happen again.
At the end of the day, it's your job to take care of everything from start to finish — this will just make you that bit more thorough.

did you send a printer version of your design? did you also send a pdf with your artwork to the printer as reference?

If you sent him a dummy then it's his fault for not checking. Having said that I would not work with any printer that would npt send me a proof tp sign off from the client.
I once had a ruch job where some prick at Pronto Print did not have the font and printed it all in Courier – Cunt!

its your fault really, but if your clever and the printer is easily argued against, then start yellin and say you'll never bring any busines sthere again and they'll probably print it for you again. It'll cost them fuck all money so if its slightly their fault for modifying it they will generally do it to keep you happy.

make him pay for the reprint or tell him you will use another printer.

Some other details of the story:
1. The client was very in hurry because of an event ... So no time for proof, checking and sign ... but i agree that for that maybe is my fault!
2. I usually work with another printer. This was a friend of my friend..
3. The printer gave the job to another big printer company because the format of the brochure was too big for him.
So he modified the file and gave the new version to them..4. I will never work again with them (and they know... )
5. This is the first time i had so problems. When he has a problem my "official" printer call me back.

If it's only the address, get some stickers printed .... maybe??
