to tell your client that the company he hired to do the design for a site, that the design sucks?
The company cant actually do the work they just know photoshop and Illustrator a bit.
what they have submitted is somewher between
sungodsuniverse
http://www.sungodsuniverse.com/and
realultimatepower.
http://www.realultimatepower.net…sorry turned into a rant.
polite ways to tell the client to go back to the drawing board, suggestions?

you're right
the websites make me laughed :)
perhaps if you meet them, asked them first if they dont mind your comments?
may i ask, what's your position in your company?
- slappy0
graphic designer, but this is not a design company.

First check they're not friends of the client, I've done that before, ripped a design when asked only for the client to say 'Oh, that's my cousin, we really liked it but now you say that...'
Just voice your concerns, they'll appreciate you give a fuck. I always like to start with 'I don't mean to step on anyones toes, but...'

is the current design efficient for their audience. Have they researched that? Maybe you can and show them "politely" why another way is more efficient.

the current design is well, is like a jigsaw. On a 1024 x 768 screen the header and left and right hand navs take up so much room that the content area is like 100px newspaper column.
I had a whole buch of functional problems with the design as well as advice such as "dont use photos behind nav text" but they invited the original design company to the meeting and they tried to defend everything.

physical revenge

Well shit, who the hell is going to end up using it? The designer? Prove why things like images behind text, half naked women, and purple type on black is no good.
- shoulderhawk0
Better yet, show the design to prospective clients in front of your boss, see what they have to say, without or with the designer there.

Bring a cowbell to the next meeting then hold it up in front of the comps and say 'you know what happens now, bitches'
- shoulderhawk0
that was good Madison.
- uberdesigner0
are you twisting the knob to "stupid" and aiming it at yourself, or not?
- slappy0
Hahaha
yeah I decided to just get the client to signoff on them to limit the involvement from this company.
Then Ill just build.
I dont want to polish it at all though as it might make this company look good. Ill stay on the concept and when it gets dissed by the general managers the problem will be apparent hopefully. Its a internal facing site so I wont be publically humiliated.
Im also going to a "site design by..." to the bottom of the page haha.
