because I can't figure out what I'm doing for a website...
... i launched a 'quicky' yesterday...
is it annoying that links just pop up sites?... should I make a secondary level of info w/a link to the site instead of a direct pop-up.... bah... it's just temporary (for another two years probably)...

I'm in the same boat. I need to redo my site but don't have the time to do a full overhaul. I think this is a good solution. The only thing that bugs me....and its not just with yours.....is reading white type on a darker colored background.....it may look cool but it KILLS MY EYES.....but, I think with yours, since there is so little text it isn't too bad. The only other thing is that you have ARCADE MEDIA and then ROSS MEDIA....a tad confusing....is it ROSS or is it ARCADE or is it ROSS-CADE or ARCROSS or RARCADE.....anyway, good temp site.

d-naked... I'm in a transitional phase here... I have an LLC called Ross Media... so certain clients are used to it...
... but I'm looking for a steady job now - I need some potent health insurance (shite health)... so I launched this temp site to work as a transition from the biz to a personal portfolio...
... eh... i don't know what I'm doing. I'm going back to bed.

pony that looks nice

I like the feel of it as it is. I'd dump the intro text and replace it with some imagery from the first client site. I'd also make the client site list, on click, show you a relevant image where that big intro text is... et voila, a your new site, nice and clean. (as it's kinda annoying that the links pop open a new window, a little unexpectedly.

The design is fine with me. The links should have some indication that they are external imo.
I don't like the copy above. Since this is a temp site the copy is a main focus.
You dont need that much explanation. The words temporary site or a one sentence explanation is fine. The way the copy is worded make it sound ameturish: learning and growing experience, reasons why the site isn't up. I especially didn't like using WE thoughout it and at the end stating WE is you. What is the point?

"I'd dump the intro text and replace it with some imagery from the first client site."
That would be nice. It wouldn't be hard to make screens for that project list with the words launch site nearby.
Then you would have a simple visually appealing site with the words 'temporary site' letting the viewer know it is only interim.

Up until I got my current contract position I was exactly where you are now and, in a lot of ways, I'm still there.
Don't think of it as a "temp" site...its a portfolio / I NEED A FUCKING FULL TIME JOB WITH BENEFITS website...but its not really a temp site....although, if you wanna get deep for a second, I guess EVERY site is a temp site...anyway...
The keys to a good, clean portfolio site are the following:
1) Select images/links from your best work...maybe with a project title and your role on that project.....nothing too crazy.
2) An online html "live text" version of your resume with links to download a PDF and/or a Word version of it.
3) Contact info.
4) About / Bio / FAQ section....call it all or one but whatever you call this section, its an opportunity for you to tell the viewer of the site a little more about yourself before they contact you and it might also help them to decide if they do or don't want to work with you. You want to work in an environment where they are going to accept you for you so giving some insight upfront isn't a bad thing.

Oh ya, and like most others are saying on here......make the first things peeps see when they get onto your site....is 1) Your favorite/best piece of design 2) Your name and 3) Your contact info....and, 4) links to the other sections.
Like seed said.....take any and all mention off of your site that this is a TEMP site. When people see "this is my temp site" they don't think that you are too busy with other work they, mostly, will think that you are too lazy. Take it off.

i think you can dump the friends & affiliates column. it's more of a portfolio site than a personal site, and it's primary goal is to land you job. there are no advantages in driving traffic away from your work!

i like whats there. the text and everything, maybe more personal info like contact

mmm, din.
looks nice, i agree with gabe..
