I have a site that looks great in FF, but is horribly wrong in IE. Is there any way to add a script or something to change the site whenever an IE user visits it?
I have this great urge to just put up a notice on the front page that you must use FF to view the site, but I know tons of ppl still use IE. Which sucks.
Thanks.

are you using html? xhtml and css? what doctype?

what is not working in IE? almost all display differences can be worked out between the two browsers

here's some doctype info btw:

really depends on how your site's build, and if you're using web standards etc.

since i am all innocent to the web...what is a 'web standard'?

This is an example of the script I'm using:

The backgrounds are transparent in FF but not in IE, and I need to make them transparent.
I think this is a n00b question, haha.

and by background, I mean the blue tabs that slide down.

http://www.zeldman.com/dwws/ - this will explain it better than i can here.
zeldman's "designing w/web standards" is the best book if you want to get started on xhtml/css, and learning to design using standards.

So it's just the transparency that's not working? if so, that's due to IE's poor png support. There's a bunch of documentation on this problem:

i'm seeing the blue tabs on FF and IE, but i'm on a pc at the moment.
is this and IE/mac issue?

Jaline,
IE does not display PNGs. Or at least not with any transparency.Sorry, bro, but you need to stick with GIFs and JPGs
BTW - nice looking site

(Dec 14 05, 10:32)i totally disagree, from my staandpoint when i made my site, i used mostly only PNG files and i designed it for IE users specificly as i am an IE user.

PNG work fine! check it! i may be wrong, but i feel so right!!!

Thanks everyone! I think the problem most definitely has to do with PNG's.
When I try to open it up in IE, the bg is NOT transparent, making the site look bad. I'm using 6.0. So I guess the task is making the PNG's into GIFs or something else transparent.

yeah it's easy. only the uppity people have to use FF. Most people still view the Internet in IE on PC. So I develop for that and then check to see if it works on FF. not the other way around J.

I'm a girl btw, unless you call everyone 'bro'.
