where is a good place to live near Irvine? good and affordable? whats around?

What do you consider affordable?
I've lived in a couple places in/around irvine. Least expensive border cities would have to be santa ana/costa mesa...
A good resource is www.apartmentguide.com

I concur with inkblot. Besides, there is more culture and even a little artist community up in Santa Ana. Supposedly some cool little lofts that I have yet to check out...

i'm in costa mesa and it's pretty cheap in relation to other surrounding areas.
if you can handle it, i would strongly consider just renting a room in a house. much cheaper. when i was looking around for a place by myself i couldn't find anything under $1200 (and that was for a tiny studio)

so santa ana is good? what areas have the most to do, good for getting out and having some family fun? got a little one, and want to move into a good area.
affordable = less then $1400 mth

so are you looking for a 2 bedroom then?

I hate Irvine. I spent two miserable years of my life there. It's a place where individuality dies and conservatism thrives. The city is owned and operated by The Irvine Company which creates laws that prohibit leaving your garage door open or having brightly colored business signs.

Yeah Irvine pretty much sucks. The spectrum is good for some family fun and all. Laguna is close by and Costa Mesa would be your best bet. If you were by yourself you could rent a place in Laguna. I live there and a bunch of my neighbors rent out and it's pretty cheap. Same thing for renting a house in Irvine depending on how much you want to spend. Good luck :)

Laguna is way better.

laguna beachis realy nice, as are the surrounding areas of laguna niguel, laguna woods, and laguna hills. newport is way expensive. huntington is fun and cheap, but not as nice. santa ana is up and coming. costa mesa is nice, but sprawling. avoid fountain valley, anaheim, garden grove.

are you going to work at Juxt?
if so, you should live at the Beach House Apartments on Superior Ave.
Can't beat the mix of location, proximity to work, and amenities.

waiting to hear back from someone else in the area.
no juxt. no 2A.

Irvine is the worst of the soccer mom, support our troops, hummer driving douche drinkers in the country.
I currently live in Costa Mesa and tho its still a soulless suburban mess, its a little better.
Not sure what all you people consider "cheap" for a 2 bed, but you will likely spend at least $1700 for a small apartment or $2500 for a house. Not cheap at all by my estimation.
Anaheim, Santa Ana, Garden Grove might run you $1200 for apt and $2000 for house.

I live in Laguna and my friends live in Newport Beach/Costa Mesa area on Placentia and around 15/16th street... I think they ay like 1200 for two bedroom but the bedrooms are not that big one is good for a bedroom and the other is about good size office space. Two bathrooms good size kitchen and bath
I think the apartments are called Seaview or Sandview or something like that your best bet is to drive around and see for yourself, sometimes better than calling around. I mean If you have no pets you can probably find a place in Laguna for $1,400... Ohh there is a place that is called Laguna something it's on El Toro and near 73 Toll Road. They have pretty reasonable prices because a lot of students live there that I know of.
Good luck...
Penny saver helps too, you can go online and see too..
