for a pc font, trebuchet is pretty good, cool at times even.

In small quanties for sure look at the brand holistically and try to tighten up aspects that only you would really notice. This will help you really understand the brand and help give a valid arguement in time to come.
It's you that will make the brand memorable so make sure your design is tight and the concepts are sound.
Bit by bit, day by day you will start to make things better (that's why your there).
Eventually (way down the line) approach the MD and chat to him/her about what they want to achieve and how you can "improve" (not change) the logo.
Remember people HATE change so it has to be progressive

Win their trust first or they'll just think you are "one of those" who come in and think you know it all.

i thought maybe the best way to go about it is to do it very subtley. instead of trebuchet, use a similar but much nicer font such as meta or officina, or even interstate(meta is my pref though).

yeah, but... trebuchet?
come on!

my advice is to keep your mouth shut and just do the best u can do with what u got to work with.

Changing the logo costs a fortune even for a small company. And if it all goes pear-shaped your ass is on fire.

Don't mention the word LOGO?

I'd just do it, in your own time as a project - then present your suggestions to them, methodically and sensitevely. If they don't go for it, well 'bother - you'll still have the work for your portfolio.
If they do, then you'll be happy and get a nice pat on the head for your efforts.
I say this as long as you're 'the' designer - if the person who designed it all is there too, you should broach the subject with them before anything.
Or just get them fired..

so i just started this new job on monday (graphic designer for a medical software company). and all their logos and corp material/style guides are really horrendously ugly, everything uses the font trebuchet (yes the free one you get with all windows products) and it hurts my eyes to look at. Im mainly just putting together brochures and stuff at the moment, but when or how should I suggest that we change these logos and have a total redesign without offending anyone or seeming like I wanna change everything,,,, it hasnt been mentioned to me that they want to change this yet....
