it's much more complex than this. it has a lot to do with $ - property value and the willingness for people to not only give up their place of birth but to start a new life elsewhere. Will they be compensated for their property ownership?

I think the comparsion to chicago is a great one.
New Orleans is an important economic port in America. And while a large part of the city is dreadfully poor, there is a lot of money there. Hell, a large part of Chicago is poor, but the city is still crucial to America.
But look at Chicago before and after the great fire. Chicago was rebuilt with the past in mind. And was barely recognizable as the city that burned.
New Orleans will be rebuilt, but they need to take some advice from Chicago. Spend the money to make it truly world-class and spend the money to not only fix the problem but assure it will NEVER happen again.

Right on, JazX.
Also, have any of you detractors ever visited the South? Are you that fucking caught up in the whole 'Bible Belt' mentality that you won't give it a chance? New Orleans is one of our most vibrant, authentic cities.
Even if NO wasn't rebuilt, people would still try to move back in. You can't just turn your back on hundreds of years of culture.
So the next person to say "Where is their God now?" or anything relatedly impudent can go fuck off and die. If you are really that insensitive to culture then you have no business in the world of design.

but now that you mention it,

the christian think that god had a hand in all this, for sure. except, as always, it was to get rid of the evil gays.

commentary from a random thread on the Net..:
Watching the news this morning, I’m listening to Elijah Cummings (D-Maryland) from the Black Congressional Caucus venting before press cameras. He’s quoting scripture and castigating the president for the response to this emergency.
I keep biting my tongue here, because I really don’t want to sound callous, but these people need to really shut their mouths. It’s so nice of our congressional leaders and other politicians who are far removed from the situation stand in front of cameras and moan about the response. Like the people working on this situation aren’t already aware that the situation is dire, grave, tragic ... choose your adjective.

People have been using the "where is their god now" card in all sorts of threads. Didn't feel like chasing them all down. Maybe this was the wrong thread for that comment.

people that say "where is their god now" are absent minded who don't read enough decent philosophy. i don't believe in god but i surely am not going to attack someone and accuse them of blind faith, providing they don't do the same of me. i get just as upset because people that say "there is no god" without ever doing reserach or having a valid point make me look like an idiot just because i'm on their "side".
anyway, back on track...

prodigalslacker, sorry I was harsh last night. I see your point buddy
:)
- prodigalslacker0
haha well everyone has an opinion and in tense times it's easy to be harsh, i've been plenty harsh on people as well. it's all good.

I have to agree with the original thought...Give it back to nature. Work smarter not harder.

problem solving and tossing in ideas for constructive solutions is a good thing. consider options and possibilities. rule out ideas with facts or revise good ideas to make them better.
so much counter productive hostility ...
c'mon guys, please be decent to eachother. who knows, you might actually work out a nifty idea . . . stranger things have happened. :)
