spl33nidoru, how many cities have you rebuilt? i'm not claiming expertise i'm claiming idealism.
i just think that it's a mistake to put a bunch of money into a location that's going to take forever and a day to even get back to where it was. use it as a port harbor but build a more efficient place to live inland so if this whole global warming thing happens and seas rise, it wont be under them again.

Colin, your mistake was the title of this thread. You have a great point.
New Orleans was impossible. It was an amazing enginering feat that it stood for this long. It IS a bad idea to build cities below sea level. Especially along the gulf coast.
To say let's build a new grand city is idealistic (while a great idea). But money should be spent to raise the level of the city, and money should be spent to build some fucking good levees. This simply must never happen again. And this is the time to fix a big mistake.

i think they should abandon it so it can become like some crazy lawless waterworld type city... the people that stay behind will probably evolve and grow gills and stuff

10 billion dollars to build this fantasy city?... get a fuckin grip dude.
that's gonna buy you shit dick all in the grand scheme of your dream world.

interesting article...

isnt it funny how...certain people resort to being fuckin cavemen as soon as theres no law?
--shooting people as they leave a fucking hospital!!
--roaming the streets with guns and raping girls!!
i can understand stealing food and water, i mean without the deeply imbedded concept of self-preservation in our brains the human race would have died out many thousands of years ago - but fucking around at such an insane level as this? fuck all of you and dont try to pass that 'i was scared and frustrated' excuse
once they round up all of these animals they should get a double-tap to the back of the head.

yeah chase the title was a mistake. but i was bitter when i was writing it.
i really think we're making a mistake. the $10 billion is initial. there will be more and more over the years. if we just instead invested the ten billion now in starting a new city , and then giving it more and more money, it could be the northern version of nola.
for now, none of this matters; the people need to get out. you think the situation is bad now? it would get exponentially worse if someone puts something in that standing water or any acts of terrorism are taken out in the general south.

I love New Orleans and am deeply saddened to see it go through this shit. The "cavemen" that are killing and raping people have been there. 28% of the people in N.O. live below the Government established poverty line. 28%!They didn't just emerge overnight... but yes, since the law has left, the crime has risen. These are people that have nothing. They grew up having nothing and they take what they can't have legally. It's not good by any means nor do I endorse the crimes that are happening. At the Superdome last night, there were 3 murders and 2 rapes. They had to evac. the Dr.s that were there to provide care because the situation was uncontrollable. There are rescue teams and volunteers that are waiting to get in to help, but they can't because of the dire situation. Do I think NOLA is worth saving and rebuilding? Yes, but I feel it is realistic and it will never be the same. People have nothing to come back to and once things are rebuilt, they won't be able to afford to come back.
- fadeproof0
yeah they take what they cant have legally - like an innocent screaming young girl.
If u behave like an animal, then that is how u should be treated - double-tap to the back of the head, like a dog.

i think they should just use the money to ease the people of nola into neighboring towns and cities if they do give up on rebuilding it.
- JazX0
No it doesn't. Screw that sh*t. Think history and the people that strived to put that place on the map. Frenchman, Indians, Spaniards, Africans, Germans, etc.
Blood, sweat and tears!
F*CK OFF! You're in Portland, Oregon for Christ's Sake! ! !
:P

As much as New Orleans looks incapacitated at this point, which in reality isn't all that bad in comparison (there damn well have been much worse catastrophies throughout human and obviously geologic history). Structurally, the city is fine, they just need to find a proper drainage system for that basin. They should have had a proper levee system in, in the first place. They didn't. You tend to find limestone (LS) near paleo-beaches such as this and it's porous. (seashell and ancient-critter conglomerations) Not too strong of a bedrock.
You rebuild the city (proper drainage in tact) with the same history and ghostlore and tell haters to F*CK OFF!
P*ss on them...
