Anyone down there in New Orleans or surrounding cities?
Keep safe, looks like it's going to be a terrible one.

i like the name. Katrina, my Katrina

CNN is calling it Killer Katrina.
I think the news people are very selfish. They're saying nothing about what all the alligators should do, where they should evacuate to.

...this one's no joke. it could be the strongest hurricane to hit the mainland u.s. EVER. the 25' storm surge + 175mph winds may tear much of new orleans appart.
worst case sceneario, new orleans could be under 15' of water for MONTHS. ...keep in mind 2/3 of domestic oil goes through this city...

I didn't mean to sound like I was making light of it. The thread name just reminded me of Ryan. That's what I get for not watching the news for a few days. Sounds like a horrible storm.

Day-m, my prayers to whoever is in the area. Must be a bitch living in a place knowing nature can wipe out your entire neighborhood just like that.

glad i don't live there anymore.

could disrupt oil supply?
- pavlovs_dog0
i was saying WORST case scenario... it looks like much of the area will be evacuated, they started yesterday. ....hopefully the army core of engineers can get in there and pump the water out. ...for those who dont know new orleans is under sea level, thus the danger.
- pavlovs_dog0
it will disrupt oil/gas.... 3 refineries in that area. ...may platforms will be damaged in the gulf... ...as well as the means to fix these paltforms, due to mobile alabama getting hit as well

i believe they said it should hit by midnite
- pavlovs_dog0
the eye isn't going to hit until monday night... it will arrive at high tide as well, so all the dominoes are lineing up.
...eveacuation is 1.5 million people.

"Katrina could be especially devastating if it strikes New Orleans because the city sits below sea level and is dependent on levees and pumps to keep the water out. A direct hit could wind up submerging the city in several feet of water.
Making matters worse, at least 100,000 people in the city lack the transportation to get out of town. Nagin said the Superdome might be used as a shelter of last resort for people who have no cars, with city bus pick-up points around New Orleans. "
