i've been wanting FS for a while (the damn thing came out 4 years ago) and since FS2 came out (earlier this year) I've really wanted it. i tend to ponder shit, especially large cash purchases. sometimes it takes me a year of research to buy something as simple as a digital camera....but damnit! i finally got it.
it's set up and the software is installed on my laptop. works awesome 'cept the fucking volume sounds like rice krispies 'snap, crackle, pop' distorted...oh well, back to the manual.
anyone else use it?
- derek20050
i used it at a store downtown, i loved it.
its on my "toys to buy" list
- lvl_130
i was worried that my laptop wouldn't be able to handle it.
thankfully it seems to work fine. the damn volume will not drop though!?
should be easy to fix....
*frantically paging through guide as thick as a pocket dictionary.

bump!@
anyone got some hints and tips to get this thing up and running well?
- toe_knee0
sweet purchase. Maybe theres a ground loop coming from your laptop. Does it sound like computer distorion???
to be honest you should have bought rane scratch live.
All the djs who endorsed FS have ditched it as it crashes an aweful lot. I think it was richie hawton who threw his version at a wall in some club cause it pissed him off so much.
- toe_knee0
but saying that alot of djs have commented that the patch for FS has really made a big improvments. and the main complain was that if your monitors were really loud it would cause the laptop to read the bass in the timecode, therefore throwing the beat off a bit, but thats only in extreme circumstanses
- Atencion0
Oh, Boys., why don´t yu just live?
Good luck with that FinalScratch problem though.
:)
- toe_knee0
looki ng forward to mucking about with albeton, but i still love my vinyl
- Atencion0
fair enough
:)
I meet you there!

word up about the vinyl comment. live looks dope but there is something comfotring to be a about the substance of vinyl : )
yeah toe_knee, i was doing some research on both rane and FS and decided to go with FS. it seems that with the patch and the upgraded hardware (compared to FS 1 and 1.5) that FS was a win / win situation. i have to mess with it more today (i really want to call in 'sick' to work and mess around with it all day : ) when i was setting it up last night it was getting a little late and i was drinking some beer...hopefully that was a combination of why i couldn't get it up and running smoothly.
- toe_knee0
sweet, let me know how it works out for ya. Needless to say im jealous

just an update for toe_knee and anyone else who may be interested---
well i've had it for a couple days now. WOW! i seriously cannot beleive how smooth this thing runs on my laptop. like silk!
also the record on the fly is so rad. i can just flip my headphones into the mic jack (i don't have a mic so i use the poor man style : ), yell something stupid into 'em like "the guy in the red smells like hamburgers" and be able to load it up instantaneous and scratch it on vinyl.
man, this technology seriously blows my mind.
plus the ability to pitch tracks up to 25% with no sound quality loss and still able to manipulate the vinyl the same is crazy (not like you would use that all the time but it's a nice way to transition between dif. style music)
another cool thing is that you can import itunes library straight away and be able to put a cd in the drive and have the ability to play and manipulate tracks straight from. plus you can even play two tracks on the same cd at once. basically using one cd and have a track on each of your tables.

(Aug 4 05, 15:51)that is awesome. Gotta get my hands on a copy. I had a go of it a while ago and after i'd mixed a track out i'd take the record off the platter... doh! that part takes getting used to.
Ive been away from my decks for too long. gonna turn off the phone and give them the attention they deserve this weekend :)
- lvl_130
haha! i do that every damn time. still haven't got used to it. probably take months.
and same goes for me about leaving the decks for a while. but once you got access to all this new music it'll change quick!

I got Final Scratch (the first version) as SOON as it came out. it was a must-buy.
HOWEVER, i never got round to installing it on my laptop because im not techy and it involved partitioning your HD as FS doesnt run on windows, its got its own OS.
So yeah i always had important work on my laptop so never did it with fear of losing work. The documentation when final scratch came out was crap - maybe its better now.
I had played with it in the shop where i got it, it is userfriendly and easy to use.
I traded it in for my lil baby Micro Korg

"I traded it in for my lil baby Micro Korg "
what's micro kong? i guess i could google it but i'm too lazy : )
yeah, FS 2 is now windows and mac compatible and it is really easy to use. interface is nice and staight forward.
i've used the older version and it was dope too. i think they fixed a lot of the problems that arose (as with any first version of anything) in v2. hopefully i won't run into any new problems.
*crosses fingers

I had fs1.4 too (1st gen) and it was ok for mixing. then fs2 came out but by then, fs1 users like myself got tired of the crappy support and paying for upgrades.
Serato Scratch live was a better investment. I upgraded and love it....free updates for life! and more clubs have it part of the inhouse setup now.

sounds nice jimeeoy! seriously.
i guess the live / on the fly record did it for me.
i'm sure rane will have live record....but not yet! : )
