if you're in your twenties and haven't moved out yet it's probably time to hit the road...
your relationship with your mom will be better for it.

I've never had any problems with my parents, they've always been really supportive for me and my sister :)

the best way to really appreciate your family is to put some distance between you and them.
- foreign0
that's harsh.
do you live at home?
parents normally have a problem seeing you as an adult if you live at home.i've had my fair share of problems with my parents, like most. my parents also divorced a few years ago which really lays everything out in the open.
knocked heads with my dad on many occasions growing up, but now we have mutual respect and can talk about anything.

you'll love and hate your parents all throughout your life mainly because there is some of them within you. You will also have a fear of turning into them.

I wanted to live away from home but my parents didn't think I could do well and basically forced me to stay. The point of living away is learning to live without family around 24/7 but whatever. I also wasn't sure if I was ready, but anything beats living here.
My mom is really old-fashioned.
I'll be moving out within the next few years.

(Jul 23 05, 15:37)True. I just know so many people who share so much with their parents. Sometimes I envy them.

Hey jaline, chin up. Don't listen to the negative insults from your mam. I've had some nasty fights with my mam in the past and horrible things were said but sometimes it's just in the heat of the moment and should be forgotten about.
You're a lovely, honest, funny talented lady and don't listen to haters.
I'm sure relations will get better
- saroose0
also, don't worry about turning into your parents. Everyone is an individual.
I know some people who have the nastiest parents but are amazing lovely people.
Just carry on being the lovely way you are and you'll have no problems. xx

I could never hate my parents. My mother is a silly, beautiful woman, and my step father is someone to look up to. They aren't perfect, and they only called me a loser when I was acting like one... haha.
No really, Jaline - time to get movin' on up to the eastside.

I'd say, don't just "let it be" when she talks to you like that.
Tell her what you're doing with your life and why. If you can't find common ground, fuck it.
Sooner or later parents, just like you, realise what it's all about.
- brooke0
Oh yes - tell her how you feel whenever she calls you a loser.
And I'm only saying that because I know you're not a loser. You're a wonderful, bright, witty, beautiful person.

kinda reverse
i think my parents were failures
but even if that's true i sometimes wish i still had them around, so even when they say nasty things and your only interpretation is that they want to hurt you, imagine for a moment that you didn't have them
- designerror0
I'm a parent, so watch your mouth honey!

Thanks Brooke :)
Thanks everyone :)
I've tried to explain various things to her....I'm quite introverted and keep everything bottled up and it's just worse now that I KNOW she doesn't listen to anything I say.
- designerror0
arh! what a threadkiller i am.
but once you have your own kid, you will see things alot different
- brooke0
Still, Designerror, there's no reason to ever call your child a loser... especially when they're far from it.
- Hym0
some people considder insults as a sort of motivation
in that case you probably have to hate your grand parents.
- designerror0
no, that is very true brooke, but i was just trying to say that once you get your own kids, your view on your parents change dramaticly..
