when i was 10 me and friends rode always back from school.we rode 2 by two on the cylingpath.a girl had to move out of the way for a branch so the girl next to her fell on the street while a tractor was passing...the tractor ran over her.that image will never leave.
i remember being very quiet that day school its strange how some people can feel something is going happen to them.og yeah the girls were sisters.

Jane and Finch (rougher side in TO) got a call from a friend whos B/F was threatening her with a knife, she ran to her car - and he smashed all the windows in. she had glass in her eyes and all over her. Jane and Finch isnt exactly the place you'd want to be at night. And it turns out the day too!
As soon as i arrived there with my girl and her sister, who i was travelling with when we got the call, he started to beat the shit out of her, drop kicking her, and holding this giant machete so close to her neck i swear it was cutting though. I couldnt do anything, let alone call the police. All i remember was him yelling "you are in my area, i can do whatever the fuck i want!" people were driving and walking by like nothing was happening. He gave her 1 more drop kick, and started chasing me for being there and trying to help her. My girl and her sister were in the car, i told them to drive away, as i chased it down the street, while this freak with a machete chased me down the street on a frickin bike! i dove in the car and we took off. Made a swoop back around to get the girl, and this guy disappeared, and the cops were there. The cops asked us why we were in this area. we shouldnt be there and to. GET OUTTA HERE! No questions about what happened. The cop just strolled by and told us to get out of the area. Nice huh!
Dont think i have run that fast in my life! Thought i was going to have a heart attack.
#2 - watched a guy get filled full of lead by 6 cops when he cocked the barrel on a 12 gauge and threatened to kill the cops that were chasing him for shooting up his girl friends house.

These are all terrible...but somehow, it's comforting to know that tragedy happens a lot, to a lot of people, all the time.
My experience changed me - it made me think twice about suspicious people, my safety, and the safety of my non-existent kids [none yet]. People live in this state, and especially that area, because it's a small town and viewed as safe. But big, small, medium city - they are all affected at some time or another.
What gets me is that Jacob's Mom Patty became an activist/advocate for kids nationally. She is actually running for the US Senate next year, and I hope she gets elected. She has turned a tragic event in her family into a lifelong commitment to public service, specifically in the last 15 years around child safety. Many people show up on the news - she got legislation passed in the US Congress. Quite something, really.
But back to my point - it's hearing others stories, sharing them ourselves, that make threads like this poigniant - poigniant to me, anyway.
But by far the most terrible personal tradegy, for me, was losing my Mom to cancer a couple years ago. She lived with the disease for over 9 years, and we had lots of amazing times - lots of incredibly difficult ones as well. But I carry with me what she left me, the lessons of a very wise woman who I was blessed to have as a Mother.
Enough already.
Shantih, Shantih, Shantih.

my boy scout troop became lost miles and miles out in the middle of the grand canyon. despite our desert survival training all of us ran out of water and became dehydrated. two of my friends began hallucinating. we hiked like this for 18 hours solid in 100 degree weather with 70 pound packs strapped to our backs, knowing that if we fell asleep we would die from dehydration and exhaustion.
we somehow managed to make a signal fire and signaled a helicopter which flew us out. we were all over the papers and on the news and stuff.
a boy from another group died in the same area we were in a week before.

here are some shots of a murder that happened across the street from my apartment a couple years ago.
we were playing some video games or something in the living room when we heard some shots and a girl scream. we heard a guy shout 'you shot my brother, oh god you shot my brother' and then some more shots. one guy had his head almost blown off and another was critically wounded. the guy ran away and was never caught.
that house burned down the next fourth of july.

lots of tragic deaths in my family.
my uncle committed suicide, his wife died of alcohol + drug poisoning.
my other uncle had someone hit him while he was on a motorcycle trip, died on impact.
to name a few...

also, my stepfather went clinically psychotic when i was 15, borrowed a shotgun without me or my mother knowing, then late one night while we were sleeping went out to the car to get it, loaded it with the intention of shooting me in my sleep, but fucked up and accidentally blasted off his left leg from the knee down. the blast woke me up and i rushed out and bandaged the bloody fucking stump and held the tourniquet while paramedics arrived.
there was a round slab of coagulated blood 3 feet across in that spot for a week.
he was institutionalized shortly thereafter and my mother and i left the state.

one time an old lady and her dog were the victims of a hit and run outside my school. we heard some screams and went out to see what was going on, and the old lady lay dead and in the middle of the road in a pool of blood next to her equally dead dog.
and as i was coming back from seeing requiem for a dream a few years ago there was an accident we passed with an upside down car. there was a thick rope of blood pouring out of the vehicle as big around as my arm on to the pavement. i remember thinking about how red it was. it was the reddest red i've ever seen in my life.

let's see...
the most traumatic thing in my life happened only last year. a drug binge on halloween left me pretty much dying alone on my bathroom floor for six days starving, hallucinating, and suffering from a nonstop migraine headache which caused pain i don't think a normal person can even fathom. my girlfriend found me and nursed me back to health the following six months. i lost 35 pounds and nearly died from an affliction it apparently aggravated my neurosurgical team later diagnosed as 'ideopathic intercranial hypertension' which causes these headaches.
some of you may remember my posts before halloween about me suffering from 4 or 5 day attacks in which the pain was so incredible and intense all i could do is scream and vomit blood.
these attacks lasted up to a record 16 day long one in december.
i couldn't move or get out of bed or feed myself for like 6 months, and eventually accepted the fact that i was going to die. i started giving my things away once i was able to speak enough to do so... preparing for my death.

not a day goes by that i'm not amazed i got through it, and that my gf stuck by me and was able to cope with my screams and crying and taking care of me.

when i was about 4 a guy ran over me in the main road of cape town. i let go of my mom's hand and ran across the street, as you do.
a guy in a mercedes hit me... i fell down, he went on going and i came out the back unscathed. all i had was a bruise on my hip where the bumper hit me.
the guy did a runner.

not really a tragedy. but it could've been.

I wish i could share mine but I can't.
But about a year ago, my cousin was getting divorced and he wasn't handling it very well. He called his mom and shot himself in the head over the phone. She later hung herself.
