Without editing the font, is there a way I can get illustrator to auto use substitute a character in for another character. The type has a single story g, and I want to use the alternate double story g instead. There are quite alot of differnt weights in the family and would prefer not to edit them all if I can avoid it.
Thanks!

you could outline everything after doing it with the regular g, and then ungroup, copy/paste your right g.
eh?

if it's open type you can replace it all.

if it's a g from an "expert" or some other option, usually most of the characters are the same, or were drawn to be used together. i'd guess there is a good reason if the entire family is no different except for a lower case g.

not sure if i'm understanding the Q correct, but check the "Find & Replace" feature.. 9 items down under Edit.
does exactly as teh name suggests; finds a specific character throughout the doc and replaces with whatever you specify.

Thanks timg, I think thats what I will have to do.
The reas there are 2 g's is one is a normal g, and the other is an alternate g if you want to use a double bowl g. The type is Lucas de Groots Thesis, I am not sure why in The Sans and The Serif of the family the double bowl g is standard, but in the The Mix family (which im using for body copy) he has the single story g.
Oh well find and replace shall do. I wish it was opentype, would make ligs alot easier to work with as well.
