here we fucking go, discipler.

The problems run deeper than that. Our society as a whole is very sick right now. It doesnt matter how many knives your kitchen is stocked with.

(May 31 05, 12:10)Have times really changed all that much? Or are we all just more aware of the ugly side of human nature because of immediate accessibility of media and information?
- JazX0
ohh randoman, I know we are SOOOOOO evil hahahaa, dude please....

i absolutely concur with IRNlun6.

Times REALLY changed. When I was a kid, they wrote about stolen bikes in the paper, now they can't even seem to cover all the murders.
It's a sick world and we're about to get extinct by ourselves.

I was observing my friend's kids last night. Those are some intelligent kids! One was 2 and the other 5 and damn the 2 year old's english was pretty amazing I thought. The oldest was playing with a toy bird that when squeezed shot out little suction cup styrafoam arrows(?) anyways the oldest would shot here little sis but what freaked me out was that she would say, "I'm going to murder you okay?" and the shoot at her little sis. Now when I was little I never used that word when I was playing shoot em games with my siblings. Infact I would say "I'm going to get you". While little kids today always shout "I'm gonna kill you" or in this case "I"m gonna murder you". Just an observation. Doesn't mean anything though. I used to dismember my toys and then bury them and I turned out fine........*eye twitches*

sh*t, not sure about you guys, but NYC and most inner city areas in general were a HELL of a lot more dangerous, let's say 20 years ago, than they are now.

Theres no disputing that there is an ugly side to humanity just as there is a beautiful.
Through the power of influence we are able to being out one or the other more easily.
Massive amounts of violence perpetuated by mass media has manifestied itself into reality in such a way that at the present time there is an inertia carrying us downward, more quickly.
Not being aware of it is just as much a cause as is anything else.
You could say that we are more aware of the darker side of humanity through seeing it in the media. At the same time, the media works as a catalyst to spread negativity, violence, hate, and insensitivity - causeing more events for the media to further exploit. It's a vicious cycle any way you look at it.

There is something to be said about the accesibility of media in this day and age and how this makes us privy to violence like this. But, I don't think there's any question that there has been a subtle and congruent desensitization that has permeated our culture in recent years. I mean, look at what kind of stuff kids are exposed to on TV and the internet.

You're right, randoman.
I think there's a huge problem states with the family unit actually being a family unit.
- d5ive0
This makes me sick. We have a major problem here in the states. And I blame it mainly on our society and the lack of family and community support. Too much violence in TV, movies, cartoons, toys, etc. Not enough parents spending quality time with their children and one huge thing for me is freakin video games. You just walk down the game aisle in Target or whatever and count how many violent games there are. Not enough reading at home or parents sitting down to help with home work. The family structure is crumbling and fast. It sends a ripple effect to everything. We want to put our blinders up and just live in the surburban bubbles that we build around us. I'm not saying that I'm holier than though. But I try. I have three kids and it scares the crap out of me. The stuff they tell me that other kids say and do is frightening and this is just in kindergarten and third grade.
