I am in the process of putting together a shopping list of software I need to buy for my new mac.
OBVIOUSLY, I will be buying CS2 and as you are all aware - that comes with InDesign.
Should I buy Quark or try and get my head around InDesign.
I have used Quark 6 at my last company and I dont think it is up to much any way... HOWEVER, I DONT us InDesign
What you reckon??

indesign all the way mate. i used to use both - and when i use qrk now i cringe. indesign is so compatible with the rest - it's great.
forget quark - you wont look back.

it'll take about 5 mins. to get your head around indesign.

OMFG fuck quark the piece of fucking shit bastard cock piss

I used InDesign to make a simple brochure and to learn the program. For the most part now, I wouldn't go back to Quark/Quack.
Yea InDesign!

as much as we all hate quark
- doggy0
sorry...
as much as we all hate quark, it is kind of the industry standard. But whatever, use whatever software you can get the job done in! Finished product is the main goal.

Indesign is slightly more stable than Quark. It is also more cheaper and if you are used to using Illustrator then definitely Indesign all the way.

indesign...because i use illy and pshop and the interfaces are similar...and i like the slidey palletes in cs (don't have cs2 yet, maybe won't get it)...
pdfx3 or pdfx1 are industry standards i suppose...so no worries...

InDesign version 3
Quark version 6And InDesign is now far superior than quark Enough said..

Every single one of you said InD.
That is bizarre in its own right.
I have loads of mates who work in design companies in London and none of them use it - QUARK only.
The NT opinion goes along way in my book.
Anyone of you work in London?
- speed_d0
I find (at least at places I have worked) most companies are reluctant to make the switch to InDesign because of two reasons
1) the same ol' printer they have used for ages only services Quark
2) all their old files are Quark files and they don't want to change...

im not sure about london, but i do know that indesign has the ability to adjust to the "quark" key commands. with the ability to import native Pshop and Illustrator documents, and compile all of your fonts and images for you, (prefilght checklist & bundle) i dont see why quark still exists.
also, speed_d, indesign can import old/new quark documents, and still leave them editable.

A London view for what it's worth; same as speed_d.
Printers are beginning to accept ID more and more, but there's enough of them about to consider taking the business elsewhere if they don't. And, a lot accept hi-res PDF artwork now so ID/Quark becomes a moot point.
You can convert back-saved Quark files to ID, a bit of a faff but you only have to do it once!
-If only the choice were as simple as 'I like the menus more'... :-)

was it quark 5 or 6 they introduced multiple undos?

MS Publisher. End of argument.

InDesign is obviously the superior software. Quark has given up more than Netscape a few years ago.
The issue is whether your printer will deal with your files well. Only you can answer that for sure. Do your research and keep you fingers crossed for InDesign.
Quark deserves to finally be kicked off the planet and they have for many years.
