New Kids On The block, had a bunch of hits
Chinese food makes me sick.
And I think it's fly when girls stop by for the summer, for the summer
I like girls that wear Abercrombie and Fitch,
I'd take her if I had one wish,
But she's been gone since that summer..
Since that summerby wanna-be hip-hop/pop artists LFO.

hip hop is definitely up there right now in sales and what not, unfortunately you have rappers and girl vocalists up there that are dropping a few songs for the club here and there. Nothing really good. There are a few underground artists out there that are good which will be better models for hip hop. This is one that I like

there's so much good hip hop out there right now and there's always lot's posted in FMT every week..
there's also lot's of crap so it's easy to see why people feel ok to generalize it. I always say the same thing about alternative rock music and it being dead, even though I know there has to be better shit out there than the crap they play on MTV, Much Music and the likes...

he must be blind as hell, hip hop is alive and well, some dont have the mind to tell.......

actully, i wrote a decent piece, but its rather complex and it disses just about everything, and its in portuguese, so no way of getting world wide coverage since it cant be translated. It would take shakespear to re-write it to have it sound the same.

Hip hop is still dead. It's so commercial that there can be no innovation anymore at least in anything that"ll get heard by more than six people.
Just drive the spike through it"s head and kill the corpse so it can be vital again.
Hip Hop is as dead as Hair Metal was about six months before Nirvana broke. Dead and doesn't even know it. So sad.

I only looked at this thread because I thought it was gonna say "White woman and Hipsters". But since I've read it, I may as well contribute...
Hiphop is mainstream... it's more romantic to throw back to the early days when it meant something more, was a movement, was real(er), but lest you forget it's not.
Having said that, you have to look back into time to see where your white girl griders were before they made hiphop their new home.
Back in the days when rock/metal was the mainstream, the white grinders as you call them could be found making out (or screwing as I once saw) with thier men on a blanket at a White Snake concert, flashing pale boobies at a metallica show (or at Monsters of Rock - f*ck yeah!), etc. Going back a little further to the 60's and 70's where "Free Lovin'" was all the rage, our pasty honeys could be see getting down and dirty publicly in the name of peace and love.
And let's not even delve into the sex fuled era of dicso.
As far as you singleing out white woman over people of all sex and race, it might be where your hanging out. Everybodys doin' it. Maybe the clean cut image of white woman that your programmed with is conflicting with what you see... that might make it stand out more. Granted they might also be a little more repressed than others.

nothing is dead. it's just music. SOME hip hop is mainstream, but you can't judge the state of hip hop by MTV. that's like saying there's no more good rock and roll because all the bands on TRL sound shitty. look a little deeper than your television.

word skelly.

It's true... hiphop will live on as a genre... it's just going through a tough time right now like any music that has endured the mainstream for sometime...
It's sort of like the excess that happens... it happened to metal and rock also (Glam rock, hair rock) which eventually helped move rock outside the door and made way for rap/hiphop.
Now we see the excess dragging hiphop down, mainstream hiphop...
i wonder what will takes it's place as far as mainstream is considered. When will the next huge innovation in music or completely new genre come about to dominate the mainstream?

I don't think you can really say that any sort of music is dead. Sure, it can be less popular, but it can't really be dead.
K-Os is one of the only artists of hip/hop that I listen to. He's so genuine and passionate in his interviews. And never objectifies women.

usrper, rap/hip-hop type parties only play the same songs over and over because most homies only hold an appreciation for the latest "hippity-hop" sensations or else it's just not cool.
Maybe some old school in there would work, but even then those tracks tend to be limited. I guess it shows limited taste & mentality (short attention span and all that)...???
The same could be said for Pop/Rock lovers, though.
