WTC master site planner Daniel Libeskind originally envisioned the height to symbolize the year of American independence and the spire to evoke the arm of the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor.
Architechtural Bullshit or pandering to the whims of a over-sympathetic nation?

it's just a matter of taste if you like it or not, however i think you shouldn't compromise, i've never seen a noteworhty architectual piece which consists of design compromises. it's like elevator music, no one really hates it but no one really likes it as well. wallpaper.

I wish they would have left Liebeskind's original design as is. It was a singular, beautiful vision. Now it is a clusterfuck.

'the height - foundation of America' is typical creative bullshit. My project was better because it followed the angles of Benjamin Franklin toilet seat.
rabatski nailed it: good architecture is not a product of compromises. Otherwise it becomes something without an identity, incoherent, that has 'some good things about it' but sucks as a whole.

Libeskind is shite.
but
Trump's view of 'acceptable' architecture can be defined as "something big with golden toilets/door knobs".

how about choosing a fucking architect that actually is located in NYC?

agreed

I totally agree with Trump on this one. Rebuild the originals. Nothing would say Fuck You to the Terrorists better, nor would anything heal the NY skyline better. Two for the price of one I say...
(PS this time build AA gun emplacements around base)

been to new york lately?

i thought for security reasons they were only changing the bottom 150 - 250 feet. the rest will remain the same.
maybe i read it wrong.

has anyone seen the Donald Trump idea on the news?
what a tool.

sorry, did not read all the comments yet.

twice in the last five years.
I did saw the Trump Towers projects. It's shite.
New York != WTC != Trump
I totally disagree with building the orignals. You cannot clone history once it's destroyed.
The project however, should be quite simple in structure. One [or 2 maximum] big tower[s].
The only way to define that whole are is to make it simple and straightforward, not engaging in artsy/fartsy explanations.

it'll be interesting how this plays out.

Fact: Donald Trump couldn't esign anything with class if his life depended on it. The hair speaks for itself.
Opinion: Rebuild the twin towers as they were.
My take. I agree with the DOn. Said so on Sept 12 oh so long ago. Although I would settle on the Freedom Tower too as it was ORIGINALLY planned - not this compromised BS

i object to the fact they are basing the design (in part) on something that already exists. what a shame.

designed by committee
what about the ultra-rich moms in the 'hood and their needs and wants for their private pre-schoolers who will be well grown by the time its built! we need to listen to them (they seem angry)

Libeskind took the second tallest office building in the WTC redesign and moved it to Sacramento as a mixed use building....

"i object to the fact they are basing the design (in part) on something that already exists. what a shame."
what are you referring to?
