All you've gotta do is click the hold button on and then off (so i'ts not holding) and hold down the Menu button and the Select button (that's the one in the middle) for as long as it takes (it's always longer than the quoted 6 seconds). The Apple logo will appear, then it restarts...
Don't hold them down too hard, cause it's easy to press more than one button by accident if you do.
Piece of piss... like other people have already said. A lot.

Have you tried putting the bong down and removing all Cyprus Hill mp3's?
- vburo0
let a bus ride over it.
you will never bitch about it again.
;)
- gruntt0
sorry man. hopefully the battery thing will do the trick.
good luck.
- Ramanisky20
still frozen.
guess i'll just wait till the battery drains out
fucking sucks
I wonder if it had anything to do with a corrupt mp3 maybe a virus attached to the file itself
- chameleonic0
um.
make sure it's connected to either your computer via firewire, or to the power supply.
flip hold on then off then hold the menu and select button together for about 5 seconds. if that doesn't work, try the same with menu and play (after flicking hold.)
do it do it do it

this may seem dumb, but you said the play/pause button wont respond. make sure you unlock the buttons with the switch next to the headphones jack. I've seen people complain their ipod were broken but they just realise it was an lock.

get a knife and threaten to cut it

happened to my mini once...as soon as the battery died, i recharged it, and it seemed happy enough.

when plugging in and out of your computer, make sure you are ejecting it via software. unless the locked button is the issue..?
- radar0
I have had mine lock up like that, and I just plugged it into a wall charger, and once it recieved a full charge it worked fine?
- gruntt0
flick the hold button back a forth a few times.
and/or
"To unlock it, reset it by holding down the Menu and Play buttons on the first three generations of iPods (or the Play and Select button on the mini and fourth-generation iPod) for about six seconds." - article here... http://playlistmag.com/help/2004…
- Ramanisky20
did that too
dammit ...I just bought the Goddamn thing back in December
- JazX0
smack it three times like the Fonz did in Happy Days.
- Ramanisky20
play/pause doesnt work because its completely locked
put it down my pants.....that didnt work
yelled at it and then told it that I was sorry and that it would never happen again.....that didnt work
tried the clap on clap off..... that didnt work
- gruntt0
have you tried verbally abusing it and then after a few minutes apologizing to it, promising it will never happen again?
- radar0
I read on Apple support if you put it down your pants for 10 minutes it will overheat and automatically reboot.
- JazX0
take it back to the store so they can reformat it
- de4k0
if holding play/pause down won't turn it off.
wait till bettery dies and then re-charge your problem should be fixed.did happen to me when a banana fingered friend was pawing at the buttons with all the tenderness of a drunk rhino.
