taking internet for granted?

my internet connection has been pretty much non existent for the last month. last week the bastards from my wireless ISP finally fixed the problem. god, it's good. it was mostly an upload problem ... my upload speed started at 0.65kb/s and then dropped to nothing anyway. download speeds were better but very poor.

the funny thing is how much i depend on having a connection that works. especially when it comes to uploading. i had been working around uploading files by writing them to CD and uploading from a nearby location. a total pain in the ass.

i'm just saying that now that the connection works well again ... it's like the first time i've experienced the internet all over again. what a feeling. you should try it ... of course who would deliberately try and work by uploading files from CD at another location.

the best i can describe it is ... it's like the feeling of spring after a long winter.

love it or hate it, the internet is, without a doubt part of our lives, no?

any other experiences with "rediscovering" the net?

never use a wifi isp. always pay for a telco line or cable. all my pro. experiences with wifi isp's have sucked.

    service is generally unstable.

the technology is rough at best...and while you may have decent service for a while something will break and you'll experience exactly what you just went through.

dsl, t1 or cable are your best choices for professional service.

i work at home as well as my office and have both a cable and sdsl pipe coming into my home, built a linux router to produce fail-over access. of course, i run rsync backup servers for my office's off-site nightly backups...but, nothing beats true 24/7 uptime.

when both lines are up, i get double the speed via load balancing on the router...and if either pipe experiences downtime then i still have access...only area power failure knocks me off.

    best way to work. :)
