this is probably a really stupid question, but i just got one of the older wacom usb tablets from a friend.
i plugged it in and my computer recognized it right away. but how the hell do i actually use it instead of my mouse.
i scribble on it and it does nothing. i unplug my mouse...still doesn't do anything. go into device managment and enable wacom and disable mouse...still nothing.
sorry if this makes me sound like a complete fool...i have no instructions and am not even sure what model it is. any help please?

go to wacom.com and download the drivers.

You don't need to turn off your regular mouse when you use it.
Just make sure you've got the latest driver and the bundled control panel for the board and that the board recognizes your pen.

thanks guys, hey PeterH what do you mena by this"and the bundled control panel for the board "
i'll dl the new drivers now so maybe that will be self-explan.

okay, one more problem...i'm not sure what model i've got?
it says MODEL ET-0405-U but i don't see that on the site. i think this tablet is kind of old...but i guess it can't be that old seeing how it is usb and not serial...any help on guessing would be cool, i know it's a 4x5 and it's like baby blu and grey. anyone?

About the post:
With the drivers you get a control panel, from which you can set up the pen and the board to function the way you like.
You can assign functions to the buttons on the pen as well as to the table, etc. But perhaps more relevant to your case: you can see which pens and mouses the board has found and recognized.

batteries?
- lvl_130
batteries? huh? me slow, so please excuse me if that was a joke. it's powered by usb....
for some reason i feel dumb even answering that question : ) *me flipping over the wacom pad to double check if it doesn't have some hidden tiny watch batteries*
oh, and thanks guys. it works like a charm! can't believe i never bought one before.
- monNom0
that was a ligitmate question... i could have sworn the pens have a little watch battery in them..
- Peter0
nope, no batteries. had my intous (1) for at least over 6 years so any batteries would have been dead by now.
anyways, glad it worked out. takes a while to get used to a big table but once you're in the routine it's all good.
makes me want to post some stuff I did with my table here...

(Feb 8 05, 23:50)sorry monNom...they may. i just got this thing so i have no idea. i really have no idea how this thing reads through the tablet. it has to be a non-infared sensor though...i think anyway.
