I am finding it increasingly difficult to find work that is design-centric without all the XML/ASP/Actionscript/whatever coding BS that some of us are piss-poor at.
I was drawing cartoons in math class, for f*ck's sake, that's why I'm a g*ddamn artist and not a number cruncher!

what truly inspires you what do you enjoy. im an avg web designer by my 3d modeling skills are the ish to me i sell those and clients ask for more so i give it if i can ti pass it to my friends,. what goes around comes around.

indeed clone, i *do* collaborate for freelance, but for full-time you can't.
seems to me like your ability will be watered down and unfocused if you're dividing your skills and trying to maintain your game with each instead of being really good at one.

tuig, that's a pretty standard skill set. Everyone should know html. And people into Flash will know After Effects, Photoshop, and Illy usually by association of the kind of work they do. That's the case for me.
"Motion graphic" just means make sure you can tween alright.

Once you get settled into a job, I imagine you're not doing all those things anyway.

I dont understand why designers have to know programming cause basically thats what it is.....I am seriously thinking about going into motion graphics and print design....so I can get away from coding......
or just get someone that can do it for me....

yeah it sucks (like the janitor example) I started out doing print design- then web graphics, since I had a person hobby in music recording I all the sudden was doing multi media work- now I do PHP, flash coding, and taught myself HTML and CSS to the fullest-
it use to be one guy does one job- this way you get the best of it all- now its one guy does all the jobs and you'll be lucky if they will consider you the best at any of it-
I just want to go fishing, come home and paint pictures...
a boy can dream.

Personally I think programming is awesome. not that I enjoy doing it, I love what it can do and the posibilities open up for what I am able to create and design things around. I grew up a painter and went to art school but creating non-liniar structures and dynamic moving stuff is a hell of a lot more interesting than a print ad. Also I have been applying for that job at R\GA but no one ever replys, techniccally I have the things they are asking for. Not that I am saying I am hot shit there is much better designers out there and much better programmers but I have been doing all of that for some time now and personally the thing that bothers me is the people that get those jobs are the people with the conections not the ability, I just moved to NYC and work from home because there are plenty of projects but it is hard to get in the door at places like R/GA.

It's not so much the skillsets being asked for but the fact that most jobs now seem to be coming through recruitment agencies who are simply listing skills they know nothing about.
I saw an ad recently for a junior designer job asking for the normal xhtml/css stuff along with photoshop/fireworks skills but then they also claimed the applicant would need a minimum of 2 years experience, php, asp, mysql and coldfusion! All for £15k
err .....
