so here is the situation
i work for a small (just my boss and i) design studio in Toronto. I see him constantly make bad decisions, whch i usually try to talk him out of but he is set in his ways.
i see him get taken advantage of by his clients and never ever protects himself with contacts
and he has no creative process and just makes stuff "look pretty" and bullshit through his designs instead of understanding his clients
what should i do. Ive become increasingly frusterated

get your resume up to date?
i can relate.
good luck.
- taragee0
find a new job :( ppl dont change unfortunately...
- janne0
man, i have been thru that a looong time ago... they completely let the client dictate how it should look etc. and then they even accepted to do it for like less then shit..
for me only two options back then:
jump out of the window or resign.
i safely choose the latter..

The only way to solve this is to actually tell him your thoughs and be sure to back up any critism with constructive alternatives so it doesn't appear you're just whining but have actually thought through potential problem areas and are willing to help address them.

either become more involved.
talk to him about it over a few pints man to man.
hire a stripper to seduce him and drug him to death with drugs. then you can take over.

what tara said
- chossy0
leave as soon as you can.

What's your relation with your "boss"? Surely you two would be pretty toight, since its only you two working all day? I say be a man, tell him everyting you've said here. Just discuss with him, you're just talking about improvements here, nothign to be afraid of. Bring it up and explain what you would've done differently and why.

I was thinking of seduction too, but by using that irresistable bread at The Olive Garden.
(Not sure if that's in Canada or not)
- jevad0
hmm...why not let him ass rape you for a couple more years?
- tkmeister0
don't waste your time on people who don't learn.
move on, move on...
- dippy0
omg that olive garden bread is amazing!
on a serious note, i think you should leave, but explain why. he's not likely to hear it or understand it, but you gotta save yourself.

i have tried to take many different approaches with him.
told him my thoughts and reasons why i disagree and even show him successful examples of the situation
i try to be very fair and honest with him but he just doesnt get it
- gruntt0
throw a full fledged hissy fit.
my CD has been trying that lately... maybe it will work for you.
- jox0
Then leave. You've tried. Go on. Leave a floater on your way out.
- mg330
But seriously, how long have you worked with him?
If you don't have the kind of relationship where you can talk honestly about the work you are both doing, and the issues surrounding the discontent, then you might be better off somewhere else.I hate that feeling of putting on the face that everything is OK, when inside, it's not. It eats away at you and drives you mad.
- janne0
yup... ALWAYS leave a floater on your way out.. unless you are called k0na ofcourse!
:P

Sometimes there is nothing you can do, you just have to get yourself ready to move on.
I went through the same thing recently and couldn't take it anymore, I had tried everything to get him to take things seriously, but nothing ever clicked so I had to quit for my own sanity.
This happens to way too many people, we need a support group!
- mg330
Oh, and I'm soon to take a daily regimen of pills to clean out my colon and intestines and get healthy again.
I'll come by and leave that floater for you. :D T'will be spectacular!
