wwhy do folk do fullscreen? i've never understood why, even when the site is nice.
perhaps maybe if you wanted it to act more like a game or something not part of the internet/browser?

For the right instance it is appropriate. Used in conjunction with a flash file that has a large background image, to cater for an audience with high resolution users is an example
It's altogether more immersive.

that fullscreen function doesn't work well with safari

do you guys not like the fullscreen because the examples didnt use/need the whole space of the screen (therefore bad use),
or do you not like the fullscreen fullstop?
- stewart0
indeed
fullscreen websites at the 0,0 coordinates on the desktop really suck because i have my dock on the left side of the screen
would be cool if i could shift the OSX desktop 0,0 coordinates 30px to the right
also my photoshop tool palette always appears under the dock

dont like it full stop.
unless the site is some immersive extravaganza. like those trailers that get the special treatment of running once the projecter is opened up and lights fully dimmed.

Yes, only make a fullscreen website if it is extremely unique and that experience is only possible with fullscreen.
When you have a 1600x1200 resolution it is quite bad to have some site force you to fullscreen...

I've disabled it in firefox now. Suck my nuts fullscreen designers.

I hate fullscreen too with a passion but we have to remember that designers aren't (for the most part) designing for other designers with mammouth screen res.
The average target audience is still using 1024x768 and worser still - 800x600. So in this case fullscreen is merely a way of optimising the available screen space thus minimising scrolling.
But I believe that designers must NEVER force it and ALWAYS give the user the option.
