What's that 80 storey ..um.. metal... thingy ...with some sort of blade on top above the "building"?

This whole thing has become a huge cluster fuck. Too many chiefs not enough people shutting the fuck up. Will probably never be built becasue of all the red tape nonsense.

jox, it's a blade for Blade IV
- jox0
Oh, I get it. Yeah, i heard Keanu is getting a monument up there too for the matrix flicks. Damn film industry, always gettin involved.

what is this supposed to represent? That Freedom=Retarded?
- tny0
holy erector set cum leaning tower of pisa!

freedom is a giant finger to the rest of the world. they tried to make it abstract, but convey the point.
- superbaka0
the stupid blade at the top is there just to reach 1776 ft - ie: the year of america's independence. the whole building is a clusterfuck of symbolism.
- toastie0
i dont wanna be the guy selling real estate in that thing

a lost opportunity to create another NY architectural icon.

It will be beautiful when it's done. It will go thru a lot of changes I'm sure. but I don't likle that concept art. It looks like fancy scafolding. Syd Mead had an amazing concept for it. It never made it into the finalists.

in 15 years, people will look at it as an architectural icon. everyone hated the empire state building when it was built, now its one of the most celebrated structures in the world.

Wow... let's see. A POS. Damn architects and their egos. Honestly this project has been ruined. No single clear vision now because everyone wants a say. If this thing EVER gets built, it'll be remembered not for what it represented, but all the BS political crap that got in the way dooming it.

david child really screwed up the original Liebeskind plan.
and now david child is being sued by a Yale arch student for allegedly stealing his idea.

beauty is completely subjective, let's not forget.

It blows... oh wait I thought this was the Chloe thread.

true it compromised libeskind's original idea, but still will be an amazing building. and the tallest in the world. pretty awesome.

Compromised? There was no compromise. They barely 'worked' together. The studios didn't even allow members from the other studio to step into their studio without someone 'guiding' them.
1776' = tallest in the world? I don't think so. Maybe for a little time, but the Burj Tower in Dubai, currently making further progress than Libeskind/Child's tower is scheduled to reach 800 meters. 1776', just trying to find 'meaning' or a reason to build that high (aside from the developer's demand for real estate), such a lame attempt.
This project has so much meaning, but the forced partnership has been a disaster.
