Hey guys,
Need a new workstation. Thinking 'bout switching to a G5. Have a test unit now for a month and absolutely love it. But maybe this is all just like a new toy and I may be missing some frustrating bits...Anyone have experience with switching...?
Should I go for the G5 or a Dual Pentium Xeon PC?

OMG IF YOU CAN GET THE G5!!!
DO IT DO IT!!!

stay with a pc, g5s may look sexier but they wont have the same power you'll get otherwise...

i enjoy running Shake, Motion, Photoshop, itunes, and Safari with newstoday loaded at the same time.
i cant wait to switch over to a pentium and experience software crashes.

@pepe: Sure, a dual 3,06ghz xeon may have an equal or close to equal speed but what about the OS? From my short experience with OSX I already feel that XP is already years behind... And what about stability?

Yeah, if you can afford a G5 that would def. be your best bet....
PCs are so passe

why the hell are you even asking then?

@Gabriel2: No need to be so offensive. Like I said in the first post, maybe there are some hidden quirks that won't surface in my G5-trial.
I want to hear your stories. Your frustrations etc...

sorry, I'm just getting tired of all the mac/pc threads, try searching the pvn and you'll find several just in the last couple days. otherwise google is a fantastic resource for personal OS stories...

i switched from a pc to an iBook and the lack of issues i have had with it is deafining! switch to a mac, no virus worries, no software crashes, no blue screen of death!
- SirG0
@Gabriel2: Sorry 'bout that

I don't think you will find many "hidden" problems waiting for you, if you stay with Mac's.
The OS is VERY strong and the few times I have crashed in years were not because of the Mac, but outside issues.

@Gabriel2: On the other hand, switching is not something you do without checking all resources available. I mean... Switching is not cheap and thus you probably only do it once. So one tends to ask as many people as he possibly can before doing something like this, right?

One should also try searching the PVN (or interweb) before filling it up with another pointless mac/pc thread. If you ever seen any of these threads on this site you will know that they ALWAYS end up favoring macs, so it's rather pointless to ask if you are honestly considering both pc and mac...

I just ordered a Dual 2.5Ghz G5...switching from a PC that I built myself. I currently have to reformat my PC about once every 8 months or so due to build up, the PC just starts slowing down over time.
I have a PB that I both love and hate, its about time to take it back to the Apple store because my contrast buttons won't work...so dunno, I think they both have their problems. My main reason to switch is that I'm trying to work freelance with ad agencies and other design houses so transferring files is much easier (no font issues).
I'll let you know how I find the speed of the G5 in a few weeks after getting to test it out. The one thing I've noticed about the Mac vs PC is that when I give my PC way too much to do it will hang up or crash programs...the PB I have will keep chugging...it might go slow but eventually it gets the job done.
I would recommend switching if you have the cash, but don't expect the Mac to be error free like some of these fanatics spread like gospel. My PB has been a mountain of problems...I'm only hoping that soon they will just replace the thing.

gabriel...why dont you just make an NT ethics rule book? If it really bothers you that there is another thread about Macs vs PC then just don't read the thread. It will save you some frustration and obvious heartache.

"if u look under the skin the g5 is powered by pentium"
