I've been hosting my site on .Mac for a while now, but now want to add a movable type photo blog, for which I need php. so I need a new host.
can anyone offer any cheap and reliable suggestions? I'd preferably like a handful of subdomains, and the possibility of hosting 2 or 3 compltely different sites (with different domain names).
I'm not too knowledgable about this, and confused a bit about pointing my domain name to a host properly (it's currently set as a redirector to a site on my iDisk), so some help there is also welcome.
What's Spymac hosting like? http://www.spymac.com/hosting/ would that be suitable for what I want (the cheapest option)? Although the crappy design of the site lowers my confidence meter in them...
also https://www.b-one.net/ ? any thoughts?cheers in advance

i can tell you not to go with webhost4life. worst ever.

will avoid them!
I just wish Apple would allow PHP, and proper domain hosting on .Mac iDisk. Everything else about my current arrangement is great...

hahaha! webhost4life
just that name should turn you away! : )

Lunarpages, cheap, fast, reliable, 1Gb, 40gb transfer monthly. excellent costumer support. ready to install scripts such as blogs and photogalleries.

kodap, does that place have an ecommerce package built in too?
does anyone know of a host that offers one that's cheap?
sorry, not hijacking your thread.

looks ok, although I won't need that script library. I'm going to go with movable type.
actually I'll link up what I want to do. this is a mockup of the blog: http://homepage.mac.com/nuworld/…
I want that to be hosted alongside my portfolio site, but on a subdomain.
http://blog.nathan-adams.net
(whereas my folio will be http://www.nathan-adams.net/ , which already exists and points to my iDisk)so I want a setup that can handle that.
I may also think about moving another site over to be hosted on the same space, but with a different domain name. ( http://www.brilliantgreen.net/ )
so I take it Lunarpages would be suitable for that?
thanks

what do you think of the other options too?

https://www.b-one.net/
and http://icdsoft.com/hosting.php

just forward your nathan-adams.com dns servers to lunarpages servers.. will take 1 day or less to take effect... Cpanel X will allow you to have up to 50 subdomains.
K0na: yes- they have 2 different commerce packages, I haven't checked that.. but i guess they work on a secure https access and install automatically after you setup your mysql Db.
I really think it's the best one so far I've worked with. the support requests are answered in 1-3Hrs..

Does it cost me to redirect my domain to their dns servers. Some other sites seem to indicate that that does require $$, whereas lunar doesn't seem to say either way.
I take it then that the domain will be "proper" (ie. if I wack jjj.gif, in a folder yyy, it will be nathan-adams.net/yyy/jjj.gif ).? just want to make sure. ;)

You could use the hosted blog service TypePad (basically hosted MovableType)..
You can point domains at it too...
- Nathan_Adams0
can you point domains on the basic package?
and would that be suitable for creating this layout?:
