I have a LA CIE.. I am very satisfied with it.

check newegg.com , can't beat their prices and their shipping is so fast. i would say buy a hard drive and then buy a case (rather than premade external drive) it's cheaper usually
i just got this combo:

LaCie are the best. if you're on a mac, get one with Firewire 800 and 400 - soo fast! zing!

I got a 120 gb Iomega [usb 2 tho] which was 170 squid a year ago.
It moves with me everyday and has never let me down. Not sure if you can get one with firewire

I have Lacie 160Gizzle Firewire800/400 fast as no problems, nice blue light.

I have the same as de4k. And the blue light makes me feel safe a night.

Also have Lacie d2 160 (and a 250, 120) Firewire 800/400, no problems, nice blue light.
...and it's quiet (fans go off when it sleeps). Try that with cheap home-built...

I also sport a LaCie. I hae a 200GB that I bought last November. It's not great in terms of portability - mine's built like a shiny metal brick - but in terms of reliability, connectability, and overall praise, I love it. If you're looking for something to take with you everywhere, every day, it's not the best. I reccommend it for keeping it safely at home for backup.

*raises the glass
"Here, here to Lacies!".
[pats the blue light on the bum and gives a suggestive wink]

You may save some money by building your own. I just built one by buying the shell and a 250 gig western digital 7200 rpm with 8 mg cache for under 300 CDN$. Lacie is just a name.
- de4k0
did you put a blue light on there?
- danthon0
lol... it actually has a blue light that flashs red when in use. Freaked me out the first time. I thought 5-0 was kickin in my door.

I neeeeeeed the blue light!!
I am thinking about a Lacie would like a 800 firewire for the shear speed of the mofo.
Gonna keep it at home for back up and mp3's. Building sounds like far too much hassel - nice thought though
thanks for the info people!!

LaCie Porsche Design 250G and LaCie portable 80G. Both have performed well on a variety of platforms.
