just curious - are these figures before or after tax? not sure if you measure it the same way as we do in nz. Excuse my ignorance.
- kezza_20
Before Tax...
On about 32,000 UK, you can expect to bring home in or around 2,000 UK.
Hope that helps
- kezza_20
btw that's 2000 per month
so 32,000 UK workes out as 24,000 bring home per year

thanks Kezza, quite interesting - I'm almost up to my 2nd year in the industry as a graphic designer - on 40,000 (before tax) - so it seems so strange that you earn so much less in London, but of course i guess it's all relative right?
I mean, i pay $150 per week on rent.
Just to be curious here again - what would a decent room in an apartment in London cost per week?

This is a pretty interesting topic - how much designers make in each place.
Here in Tokyo the mid range designer makes between 25-40K in US dollars. Problem is the rent is around $1000 for a small apt.
ADs and CDs are 70K and up range.

anyone know what you'd earn in the states?
- kezza_20
It is interesting....
In London you can expect to get about £26,000 which is about 70000 NZ dollars.
A flat will set you back about £800 pm minimum (for something worth living in) so basically half of your disposable income will be taken in rent.
I'm working in Sydney at the moment and freelancing I make about £42,000, and my rent is £500 p/m. So I have ~4 times the disposable income in Sydney.
Believe me you dont go to London to save money. But frankly its one of the coolest cities in the world, with the best creative industry bar none (in my opinion) and you'll have a great laugh and do some great work if you are lucky.
- kezza_20
shoull mention that that £800 pm would get you something nice. If you wanted to share a house halve it.
- RIZ0
Thanks for the info Kezza - you say 800pm - how many bedroom house would that be?
- kezza_20
well a studio would be about 600 (tuny) and 800 would get you a 1 bed

very interesting!
as far as i know here in California its:
jr: 35-45k
intermediate: 45-55k
senior: 55-70k
then AD is upwards of 70k
and CD is even moreall figures USD of course.. and correct me if im wrong!
and living in San Francisco or LA you're gonna be paying over $750 monthly for a nice room (shared living).. and from $1200-$1500 for a nice studio or 1bd

or you can go for the subsidized housing in hunters point where nick lives.

But kezza do you find Sydney is pretty expensive in its right? Compared to the rest of Oz its insane, like 1.3 times more than here in melbourne
- kezza_20
Mate, I lived for 8 years in central London, nothings more expensive than that.
Housing in Sydney is pretty pricy, esp for me, because I have to rent furnished, but even then it's a third of what I was paying in London
- robbob0
fair call - your win - London is cool, but thank god I've got mates who live there, otherwise I'd be up for some killer hotel and food bills - the tube alone killed me last time
- mirola0
don't come to london there's too many people here already
- lilrich0
hey, good info. thanks.
