hi,
my warranty (1 year) is nearly up, is it really worth getting another2 years for £199?

It's better to buy a new computer I've found.

yeah, and you don't have all that darned extra cash laying around.
I like warrantys because i know shit can happen. i bought applecare on my g4, never needed it, but it's there. would hate to have a super drive take a crap a year and half down the road.

yes buy one. seriously.
well i bought one, and i had problems with my computer. and apple care treated my very well once they learned that i have coverage.
a few friend of mine did not have it and got treated badly and sent to other places to get theri apple repaired. even the one who only had a question over the phone needed to pay for it ($50)anway with apple you never know...

Get it! I've had Applecare on 3 Macs so far...
On a G3 Powerbook I had the motherboard, drive, outer casing, DVD drive, battery and those little rubber feet replaced. (Hmmm Apple quality not so good?)
On a PowerMac they replaced the harddrive when it failed at almost 3 years, (and they did the replacement almost a year after the warranty expired). OK Applecare didnt quite pay for itself there.
My new Powerbook has had screen replaced, casing (it fell on floor, so I had to pay for that bit), but it's nice to know they guarantee it all including anything related to the drop, for another 2 years...
Plus they walk you through all troubleshooting very systematically.... Three years of guaranteed hardware repair and hardware/software troubeshooting makes a lot of sense if its for business...

well it actually can pay for itself in many ways. i was working on a project that i was getting 400 bones to do. one day my screen went on my iMac, would have cost $400 to get it fixed so needless to say, all the work I did for the client would have put my computer back to it's original state and i would have made nothing but............. I didn't have to worry about it casue i had AppleCare.
if you use a laptop, i would highly suggest it, most people, no matter what type of laptop it is, move the computer around while it's on or working, overtime that could be very bad, ie hard drive takes a crap since it's spinning while being moved around. so if that happens, you're covered.

it's a MUST if you are buy a laptop

of course even with Applecare the repair process isnt perfect... when they replaced my Powerbook screen and fixed the casing, they didnt reassemble it properly, so the PC card slot is blocked, and a screw fell out of the battery compartment the other day... so it's getting picked up again soon by Apple to have another go...

been buying Apple since 1989 never wih an Apple Care PLan and never with one major problem- maybe I am a lucky one- but I cruise a machine for a year- sell it for three hundred less than start again.....

I can speak from both ends of the spectrum. I own a G3 iBook and the backlight went after a year (weird connector thing). Out of my pocket it would've cost me nearly $500 to fix.
I'm actually working for a computer service group right now and let me tell you, people have all kinds of issues with their computers. I can't ever imagine NOT buying a warranty with my computer purchases. It'll pay for itself the first time you use it. Not many people come out unscathed.
Do it!

buy it.. apple care will take care of you

Apple Care will be worth it in the long run....some screen repairs can be like $700! Also you get the highest level of customer service with it. I don't have it with my Powerbook (dang!) but I will get it with my G5 and Cinema Display! hehe
