Um, I was wondering if anyone has had the following problem. I just noticed that my flash site doesn't properly load a section movie when it's viewed on a Mac with I.E. 5.2. Basically, I just have a function preload for loading the movie into the main flash movie, but it just sits there without updating the preload bar. The script works fine in Windows and every other PC I've tested on.
Has anyone experienced what I'm talking about? And if so, can you offer a workaround.

sre you using attachMovie by any chance?

Dude, the more I develop bigger and more complex projects in Flash it becomes obvious that Flash MX 2004 doesn't work AT ALL!! I thought .01 update will do it, but it's so sloppy that a million other things don't work properly.
Stick with MX until something better comes along. I think they are going to release MX 2005 sooner than anyone expected. It seems that this 2004 version was just a transition and a complete ripoff.

A bad workman blames his tools.
I hate listenting to people bitching about my computer this, my apps this, well fuck it, most of you don't pay for the software, so stop fucking moaning about it, and anyway, if you have some brains on your shoulders, you'd work out that flash MX2004 is just less forgiving with Actionscipt, it's good practise to make your code more solid.

No I wasn't using attachMovie. I figured out what was wrong, I hope. I don't have a Mac to test this on, but it looks like it was a matter of changing the script just slightly. I rswitched from projectclip.onEnterFrame to this.onEnterFrame.

no offense, but flash MX2004 crashes my machine more than any other program, and I work on both mac and pc. the program has a lor of strange glitches that cannot be ignored. just today i had my g4 freeze up on me 4 times while importing an swf file from illustrator...hmmm, go figure.

well flash 2k4 is shitty, the little boys know that. apart, as far as I know they are gonna release another update before they are gonna show off the new version.
so no other choice, way to go.

if you are using a onEnterFrame function to figure out how may bytes of the new movie are loaded, maybe you will need a litte timer in your function which does getBytesLoaded() after a few seconds... i had that problem on opera7+ and with netscape7+... but with the timer it works...

Maybe I'm just lucky, but it doesn't cause me any problems, the only realy problem is the fact it doesn't save palette layouts properly, other than that, it never crashes on my home or work PCs

2004 fucks up on my mac all the time too, i get the spinning wheel on simple operations, and it just hangs all the time.

Thanks for the tip, dron, but like I said, just replacing the movieclip name with the "this" keyword did the trick. I don't know why really. There should have been no reason why the actionscript behaved differently between browsers and platform. Where's the cross-browser compatibility!?!

IE for mac is crap
Try any other browser and you'll see it working fine
