I use the dell 9100, 3ghz with HT, 1gb Ram and a Radeon 9700 card.
Positive:
-Screaming fast performance / renders.
-Super hi-res screen. You can get up to 1920 x 1200 which is the same pixel count as a 23" Cinema Display.
-Loud and crisp sound system. (very rare for a note book)
-Very effective cooling system
-4 USB2 portsDowner:
-thick & heavy
-not that good looking
-my display jumps once in a while when on battery.
-the power adapter is almost as heavy as the notebook.
-A bitch to color calibrate using the Spyder

thee best laptop's out. I know several people with them that can vouch for that.

www.alienware.com makes laptops and desktops specifically for 3d rendering. great systems that look better than everyone else and is cheaper than Dell's 46 pound XPS laptop.

as far as good, solid systems, I've always recommended thinkpads. Not sure how they are for 3d either, but they'll last longer than anything out on the market (besides maybe militarty issue).

Thats right IBM is very solid, but I don't know if they make good machines for 3D?
(But their finish is amazing)

even now as a powerbook owner, i still recommend anything that IBM makes. very very solid machines.

What kind of laptop do you need ?
a carryable or a real laptop ?
this isn't the best example but I can't find the one (saw it in PVN)

I'm primarily a Mac guy but have been getting fairly decent at 3D (Maya and 3DS) and am learning a bit of C++, so I'm thinking about picking up a PC. Can anyone lead me in a decent direction, I've never actually owned a good PC, just crappy hand me down's or 800 dollar machines. Any help or links would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
