business owners and employees alike, when your company submits bids and/or proposals for a project, do you submit a nicely designed hard copy or a nicely designed pdf? obviously a pdf is effective if the potential client is out of town, but for some reason I was just wondering what the norm was around here.

i never submitted stationary to a client, but i have submitted stationery as a hard copy to a client. if you are a designer you need to be able to spell it correctly. sorry for being a nazi, but it really is true. show them the stock you're thinking about as well.

hangs head over broken thread.....
here is a more simple way of asking what I tried to ask
when bidding on a project do you send your potential client a pdf or a printed hard copy.

prolly just heavy coated stock. satin finish with a varnish or aqueous coating. i've seen some pretty sick translucent plastic ones you can get online though.

I always send a PDF unless they specifically want a hard copy.

show them the real deal and show them stock samples! screen looks a lot different and the customer sometimes has difficulty understanding why his business card "looks so big" onscreen.

I often do both. I like putting together a nice package for them. I usally provide the same documents in PDF format on CD that I include in the package. A solid proposal presentation is important.

remember to spell it "stationery" when you send them anything.

If you are refering to a RFP - I think it should always be printed.
I wouldn't send a PDF unless they request it.

When ever we send out any proposals, we send them printed hard copies. 2 is standard for us. We send ours in book form. We also send a pdf after they have received the hard copy to review during meetings and so everyone involved has a copy.
Tangible stuff is good for the client to get a hold of. Even more when you are proposing web or interactive projects. If the final product isn't tangible, something should be.
