anyone ever worked with "duratrans", basically a thick transparency material used in marquee signs, they are backlit so they look sharp at night. (movies, slot machines, video games)
what is the best way to match a pantone for this material? other than matching it to a sample of the printed material.

is this printed?
i once had one done and it was processed like a photograph, in which case rgb would do..

yeah printed, and I am thinking my file should have been RGB, although the guy at the counter told me CMYK.
They are supposed to make me a sample print with Pantone colors printed on the actual material so I can match that way. But I don't have a good light source to check it out. (I will have to hold it up to a florecent bulb or something)These are getting printed on a lightjet at a local print shop.

i do about a billion duratrans a month for the casinos here.
we create them in RGB, but that is just for the kinds of printers we use.
matching pantones is a tricky business. basically, you can get CLOSE to a pantone color but so much depends on the lightbox itself and the surrounding area.
the colors could also change slightly in different boxes, but that is rarely something to be concerned with.
if there is anything else you want to know about duratrans, feel free to email me at work. i'm happy to help if i can.
