i'm using ICDsoft right now for both of my sites and have used media temple in the past... both have awesome customer service and are pretty reasonable.

    Anybody use Verio?

    http://www.verio.com/

i use 1&1 for my sites. Not had many problems. Biggest one I get is when their ODBC server crashes on the shared server and screws up my site until they restart the ODBC service (windows) They are pretty cheap and the phone calls have always been answered for me.
Only wish I had more control over my server settings...like 404 pages etc

  • puter0

you CAN edit your 404 pages on 1and1

only on professional package though right?

Best deal I ever found is a dedicated server on EV1Servers.net. Only high-end packages starting at $99/mth, but unmatched value for that price.

Practically no customer support, BUT you dont need it when the service is reliable and you have total control over the server. We just pay for somene to do occasional server maintenance from UK.. We've had a server uptime around 1 year.

Guys. I understand your experiences, concerns, and realities about cheap hosting. For many of your reasons is why I chose to build (mt) Media Temple .NET. I used to be a web designer and host sites for clients so I know your many of your situations intimately. Choosing the right hosting company isn't the end of the world, but can the make the needed difference in your overall design "product" and "experience" for your customers, and can save you many headaches. Many of us just want to find that one hosting company, and stop searching aimlessly for a company that's going to be responsible, reliable, credible, and around in the future.

(mt) does not have all of the crazy disk space features and rock bottom prices like the other cheap hosts. Rarely do we find customers even needing 10% of their space, so rather, we choose to invest in extremely fast and reliable hardware (see our HP success story). This approach (proven over the last 3 years) insures timely and reliable execution of your disk operations, unlike massive "white label" cheapo drives. Not only this but our disk systems are RAID configured, and have real backup systems. (not many of the other hosts can really make that statement sadly). I believe it is a "get what you pay for market", and yes agreeably there are exceptions to that rule. With (mt) Media Temple you're getting the highest grade hardware, disk speeds, ACTUAL backup systems, network design, as well as first to market innovating products such Macromedia FlashComm, MailProtect anti-spam, the root controlled ColdFusion and PHP (as) Appliance-Server, and more.. not to mention one of the highest quality staffs assembled today - many of whom have a creative background and thoroughly understand your day to day business. Oh, and we answer the phone too at 877-578-4000.

If any of you (that are prior to my post) in this thread wish to email me directly, I will discount (mt) Media Temple's (ss) Advanced hosting plan to match the current plan you've been shopping for (or paying for) at any competing host. Plus I will give you 1 free year of MailProtect, our brand new anti-spam blocker. (mt) Media Temple will work hard for your business. I personally like working with creative professionals, and I am confident my company will demonstrate to you through daily service why we are exceptional, and why so many people choose to display the powered by (mt) logo.

(mt) is about quality of service, not popularity of brand. (well at least on most days :) Give us a try. If it doesn't work out, you can bitch directly to the CEO because now you have his name, email address, and cel phone number.

    Regards,

    Demian P. Sellfors

I just find it odd how 1and1 hosting plans are so scattered... Currently, most (if not all) of their Microsoft packages don't even have PHP which is stupid considering its free. The plan I have for a client doesnt have perl either.

It's not a huge deal as I've worked around a few things but considering the price, it's not worth the problems.
