I haven't seen the film yet, i'll see it probably as a DVD rental but...
...for me, the title is all wrong and laughable. When seeing the trailer for the first time my inital thoughts were..."Tom Cruise, the last samurai? what shit."
It's the film star ego atop of a film with grandiose delivery that put me off...

Tom Cruise doesnt play a samurai.
I thought it was a pretty good movie. Maybe not enough fighting for some people.
Scary to think that some of the story line is true.

sometime i can't belive the comments i'm reading here.
the hollywood just listens to the coments made here and thinks: "ah, you will always have some morons who think they are so smart by hating us, yet in the end just like sheep they will all go to see our movies"
Seven Samurias is as hollywood as any other movie: it has standard story structure, standard charcters etc. it has corn moments and great ones. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's better than what's being churned out nowdays.

Akira Kurosawa's RAN is still my favourite. A must for those interested in Japan's feudal history. Magnificient.

so does New Zealand make a believable ancient Japan?
it was filmed here
