sorry, I just need to vent.
I am trying to find a decent full time job, so that I can get some sort of stablity in my life financially.
these companies dont call you back, they jerk you around, interview you a few times, string you along....
its fuckin pissing me off.
I'm totally upfront with them and its amazing that people say one thing and do something else.
fuck, getting a job is like pulling teeth.
and its not like we're talking about a 100k a year job here....its only 30-40 k
i mean wtf?
i'm done venting.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN...time to get WRECKED!
D

did you consider turning your efforts to collecting a huge arsenal of weaponry in order to reap your revenge?
- Bio0
welcome to life. . .
was the same when i first started looking. took me half a year to land a decent job where i was underpaid.
where are you looking?
- Bio0
also, listen to rasko. he knows what he's talkin bout.
and remember, a little jello bomb goes a long way.

"getting a job is like pulling teeth."
... uh...yeah. You're right.
It's up to YOU to call THEM back. Unless you got mad skills that everyone wants.
sucks, i know.

Been there, done that, hated that...
I know what it's like. My thing was that I was out of school, proud to have my degree, ready to get my career going, and you can't get the time of day from most places you're interested in working. This was late 2001 and some of 2002.
And you just have that awful feeling that resumes you fax or send in the mail just get tossed in the trash can, or left on a desk with the thousands of others.
Best of luck.

it's all a BS game. Talented or not, most HR places wouldn't know talent if it smacked them in the head.
- rasko40
yeah it helps if youre a cheesy megolomanic
- dconstrukt0
rasko: yeah...that might be the next step....maybe i can call bin laden or saddam to fuck them up...
bio: south FLA..jello bomb....hehe
abizzy: tell me about it.
i had an interview on tues...the dude said he was going to email me an offer and i havent heard from him since....but he kept telling me he really liked my work and he thought i would be a great fit based on my style..
WTF?
mg33: it sucks.....i didnt even want to bother wasting money creating minibooks.....i'm just sending out emails...with my portfolio online....

How much experience do you have? any?
Maybe consider sending a packet with your resume, instead of just a resume on typical boring resume paper.
include some samples of your best work, something classy and simple can go a long way into helping you getting noticed by the person doing the hiring.
:P

i've been emailing places with my online portfolio..a little "cover letter" email...and a pdf resume.

that sucks dconstrukt. if you get a response from 1 in 10 it's normal - make sure you follow up when you send your stuff to people. phone calls as well as emails.
And go directly for companies rather than recruitment agencies - remember most jobs never get advertised, so even if nothing is visible you should try them anyway.
your portfolio is good (that single page one right?) so you've just got to be persistent. good luck.

you're right jazX.
I hated reading job profiles on Monster or other places, even creative hot list.com that were written by HR people who wouldn't know Photoshop from Winamp.
I've honestly not looked at any job listings in over a year because I have a job now.
But it irked me when something literally said:
Skills required:
FrontPage
Dreamweaver
Photoshop
Illustrator
Freehand
Gif animation
Macromedia Flash a "plus"what else?
- dconstrukt0
yeah..they want designers that program! Riiiiiight.
go shove it.
there doesnt seem to be that much down here in south fla.
i know i'm good, but just havent found the right place yet.
its frustrating though cause i need to make stable income
the freelance stuff is great for side money....1 job a month...but its not consistent, and i cant live like that....
- dconstrukt0
funny, cause as we speak, i JUST got an email back from this place i interviewed at this week.
i interviewed this week....waiting for an offer....didnt hear anything so i emailed the dude.....he responded back just now telling me to be patient and he'll have something for me....
something like that.

it's pretty hard out there right now, but it is picking up.
Recently, my company wanted to hire two people and we got over a thousand resumes. And we're a pretty small outfit in the boondocks, no public transportation.
I think if you send people your resume, you have to include something that will make you stand out over the other applicants. I know our hr guy didn't go look at 1000 online portfolios.
- JazX0
I've been where you are and it does suck BIG FUCKING TIME, but economy will get better, it has to so just keep trying that's it.

here's what you do:
make friends with a super great sales guy and have him sell design to companies that have crapola branding...work WALA! 6 months later they'll be kissing your ass...

dconstrukt:
make something tangible even though youre a digital artist. i got a job right away both times i was looking (at sony and 65 media)
one example is i made a book with sampels of my web and graphic art work... bound in a book i sewed togther by hand. the called me immediately.
once i made a cdrom that was basically just a cd version of my site in a nice metal case.. and a coaster with some graphics i drew myself with a funny solgan.. along with my resume and my card (in a nice folder).. all neatly put in a box with nice tissue paper (to protect the contents) and the name of the person it was going to nicely writted on the box by hand. i delivered it to the mailroom myself. it was probably the nicest thing he got all day. i cost me maybe 50 bucks to put it all together. it was worth it tho.
i was called back and got te job right away both times. i tried the email and pdf thing.. it doesnt really get good responses.

hey where are you at? I can help maybe.
