Interested in buying a loft in the L.A. area. Anyone have tips on loft buying/issues, etc.?

IN a loft there is no divide for bathroom or kitchen or bedroom just one big space with everything right?
- unknown0
Most lofts has walled bathrooms, but the rest is in the open.

i live in a loft, no doors cept the downstairs bathroom. the open space is nice

And by the way, I've been checking for lofts in Montreal but I couldnt find anything decent under 200,000$. In LA, it should be even more.

Yeah, LA is expensive, but I guess there are options if you don't mind crack dealers and prostitutes.
- scarabin0
what do you mean "i guess there are options"?
there are lofts all over the f-ing place here.

If you were willing to move to long beach, we have some cool lofts here.
They have some really nice ones. We are considering. I think they start at around $200,000.00 USD
Right in downtown. Phat building.
good luck

i had a real nice loft in SD downtown (on 5th street) , right newxt to the mexican market and my fac bar : The Green Circle
we'were renting for 1200 a month , huge huge place...
the girl before us was a furniture designer so she left the place with lots of stuff..
ilofts are the best to do a studio

you better have a lot of credit or cash down ;)

Examples, links, please.
Everything defined as live/work lofts I've seen in L.A. so far are ridiculously expensive. I just want an inexpensive space that I can also live in, not a freakin' done-up condo.

shit I visited these tonight and they were nice, I might move in: http://www.nowall.com/projects/b…

I was looking at
I think they are a bit expesive for there non -condo status.. if you are looking for a bargain you should move to St. Louis..just kidding.
but if you cant move try looking for a place with at least the basics :plumbing and utilities in working order.. as well as the windows .. whether they open and keep out the noise ( you are looking for a bargain) and dirt .. newer is better.. I lived in a 3000sf loft with one door.. and lots of leaks ( floor, ceiling window) These areas were the things that took the most time and energy to fix and were annoying until they were fixed..
If you are busy dont do the fixer upper alone.. you will be in a constant state of unfinished flux...if you can afford a decent finished place do..
I would and do avoid condos at all reasonable costs.. fees.. personalities and more fees.. even f you can and do rent to a sub leasee..
buy a place if you can. Interest rates are creeping up but are at 40 year lows.. do a financial projection of the relative value at 3, 5 and 10 years.. assume some appreciation ( 10 % /year)and evaluate your potential gain on your investment.. 1200 / month at
5% gets you aprox. 225k worth of place .. plus utilities and Insurance and taxes... Assuming you pay those sorts of things.. Plus money in your pocket when you sell.. Rent is just a gift to your landlord.:p
Jazx you should check the #1 loft here( see link below) its the same price and a better building and local.. the #2 is huge.. if they are available.

Jaz if I so live in the burgh still and made decent money, I'd be all over one of those. They are pretty sexeh.
- JazX0
thanks pagepapa and atomica, yeah those are sweet, the one's they have are out of my price range, I can only go for the $1100 to $1200 range right now. atomica where did you move to?
- paulrand0
i live in a loft kind of space with a second floor balcony-type configuration surrounding the central open area with a 25 foot ceiling-- I love everything about it except for the acoustics. You can't hear anything clearly except what you don't want to.

I wouldn't pay shit! I'd rather pay cheap and spend lot's n lot's on slab of beer cause I'm a beer bitch yeah!!! snobby bastards!
- monNom0
you should buy a house boat
no land costs, and if you don't like the neughbourhood...tow your house somewhere nicer!
but you might get seasick.

With the lack of funds I couldn't stay in pittsburgh long so I came back here to Ohio... ooo buddy. So no I'm working fulltime for a tiny bit more than 22k/yr and doing freelance as I can get/handle it.
