agreed prome4heus.
though no one is comparing hip hop to the beatles...
and no one is saying any of that MTV hip hop is good...
am trying to point out that there is some ACE hip hop out there that IS very good MUSIC.
since when does hip hop have to be about "50cent" or "midi loops"
hey- pick a genre, and i could make the same argument by blabbering out some commercial ass shit then pronouncing that therefore the genre aint music

collaborations for artists is difficult. All 3 talentedwith different ideas. Brought together real well, thats not easy as it seems.

bling bling is killing hip hop.

I will chill, like to see some here, for shits and giggles, boring with out it sometimes. it cracks me up though some people buying into that hip-hop hype crap. what a joke ;) I don't care whom it is, Hip-Hop is a freakin' joke musically speaking. Same shit that I make, so touche!

I think Q-tips presence in other peoples work is of real value. Maybe not so great on hiw own, but a damn fine collaborator

bebop, you got any links to go along with the rumor. i guess if you did it wouldn't be a rumor though, huh.

ok, I'll drop 50. I won't mention him again. for another 24 hours, maybe a week. but this aint about just 50.
but ok. this was another point I was going to make about hip-hop but I decided not to post:
you're using western classical definitions of music toward something more worldly and more rhythmical in hip-hop. Music existed before people drew the b flat. Hell, music probably existed outside of the 12-half-tone structure of western music.
Tell you what, 400 years ago, the Maori, Apache, or Chinese never heard of the staffs and clefs. You're saying hip-hoppers know as much musical notation as much as these folks. Yet you wanna say these non-european groups weren't making music?
The other point I want to make is that hip-hop is strongly rhythmic. any melodies are more or less extensions of rhythm. thus, the clefs and flats don't matter. What does matter is rhythm, and any hip-hop producer or rapper or DJ can and will tell you what tempo is, bars, phrases, song structures, etc. even if they don't know the 'proper' names for them.

You could say you don't like hip hop - fair enough. But to call it a bunch of crap... well, I won't take this any further cause it'll get nasty ;)
- quamb0
though hip-hop today has transcended far beyond the "ghettos"
genres of music always begin somewhere
