there is nothing funny about a release party for a web site. i mean, why should be web treated differently than other mediums? what 2A has gotten wrong, however, is their presentation od the party, as mentioned in previous replies.
first, does a company portfolio site need a party? maybe. imagine how much work they put into it. its like moving to a new office.
secondly, the marketing hype/text. as cy pointed out, most of the talk surrounding movies, albums, books and now websites is pure bollocks. they are selling air. and some people believe it. what actually counts are the reviews that come after the site has opened. and in fact even that doesn't count as long as 2A has clients. if they do - then a job well done!
i don't live in the capital of entertainment however and so i might have gotten it all wrong ;)

Muahahaha
Just because I can't stand blueadvanced doesn't mean I hate them.
They just don't inspire me and are a pure comedy act in my book.
Template designer have always been considered funny that's why I laugh at them
My advice is to spend your 23 quids on a good book instead.

"buncha haters!
2A are hustlers & I can respect hard work."
yo, hard work is one thing but to be so pretentious to think that people realy give enough of a fuck about your site so that they would pay $23 to attend some launch party is just sad.
There are plenty of much better firms out there and people give the their due respect because those firms create with humility.
They don't go around preaching that their shit will be a momentous experience forever ingrained into the memories of our creative peers, enthusiastic fans and supportive friends"
and other bullshit.

Fine artists do it at galleries all the time. This is what the web has become. I would consider 2a fine artists, shit they get copied as much as a picaso these days.
dont be late

I hate the 2Advanced style. That's just a personal preference.
But to claim that I will be emotionally moved in any way by the redesign of a portfolio site, that's fucking silly no matter how you look at it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!
They make commercial sites for commercial companies. Are you on crack? That's not art, that's business!

well said, Bonseff!
artist indeed!
theatrical. they give webdesign a Hollywood jacket... which is completely uninteresting for my likey...
but yeah, i we see them as artists (inlc. their image-branding, hyping) you can view it in the right perspective, and all seems clear again.
And fine artists they are at it too, real entertainment. The should do movie-sites and stuff, for all those hyper-expensive 'films' like the Matrix and others..
But they are not webdesign firm by the standards as we know it.

well, schjetne, i understand your point, but fortunatly or unfortunatly, commercial artists are considered artists as well. Britney Spears is a pop-artist.
i almost typed poop-artist there hehehehe...

Hey Woo Go take your $23 bucks and buy some hosting.
Hey there are a bunch of DJs. There is Alcohol. Why not just come out and hang out.

"Hey there are a bunch of DJs. There is Alcohol. Why not just come out and hang out.
"Now, THAT is good copywriting! :)
damn, pixelranger, you should take that for your account next time! ;)

no im not on crack
people do get Bachelors in FINE ART in design, just like painting and printmaking. and i would say 2a took web design to another level. yes now the style is played - only cause it was so inspiring.
but i know its pointless to argue
go have another mate

im not jealous at all to whomever said that. i dont think most people are hatin' on them either.
just seems weird. thats all. i think theyre a little over the top. well.. not a little... a lot. but that's their deal. but i wouldnt spend 23 bucks to listen to crap music in santa ana. it seems like theyre just showing off to their friends and people in the design community or whatever.
never really liked showie people. but i guess in so cal everything is over the top. i see at least 10-15 hummers on my way to work everyday driving down melrose with little soccor moms inside of them with their gucci sun glasses and a baseball cap. it seems silly to me for such small laidies to be driving such big cars.
thats how i feel about this party stunt. its like a house wife going for a country ride in a hummer. does that make sense? probably not. ::sigh::

pixelranger:
(I refuse to write your name in allcaps)Of course, parties are good, but do you really think that website of yours will have a meaning in my life? Do you think you will change anything? Do you think you will change other webdesigners (or "artists". haha)?

schjetne it really does change the way you see design. because after it launches every fifth or seventh site tries to rip them off and every day there is a thread on nt about yet another rip/inspired by.

*kisses Janne and strokes his hand. Then slowly unzips his hands and..."
