I was wondering, did you ever try to make your own clothes?
I'm getting tired of all the people looking the same way and I have all these ideas but I don't know where to start cause I don't have any kind of knowledge on this subject.
Do you have any opinions that you would like to share? Is it easy to start sewing all by myself or having some lessons would be the way to go?

I'd imagine that pattern cutting is the bit you may need some kinda tuition for.

Where I work, this is basicly the process.
Fashion Designers (designs the sketch) >> Pattern Makers (based on the sketch, creates a techniqual dissection of the garment) >> Graphic designers (creates prints or embroideries if needed) Cutters (cuts out the fabric) >> Sewer (puts the stuff together) >> the Fitters (tries the clothes on fitting models to check for flaws)
Yes you can do all this by yourself, but it's not easy. Actually it depends. If you wanna create one piece for you only. Then its fairly easy. But if you wanna create a couple copies at different sizes, It gets harder.

get drak printing transfer sheets, a sewing machine and some goof fabrics and off you go - sewing is pretty easy..

Well, I guess the difficult part is to draw the pattern and transfering it to the fabric. I have the ideas and the sewing machine but I think those lessons would be helpful. In the meanwhile I can start damaging some fabrics ;)

learning by damaging!!
you never know what you´ll get out of it :)

Yes you're right luke.
I might even find a hidden talent :)
That would be cool.

And is it easy? Are you a self-taught or did you learn someting about sewing and fashion design?

my mother teached me how to sew, but right now i'm better at it than she is :)
just start with 'copying' the clothes you already have.
- Bitlounge0
That's a good way to go too,
to understand how the clothes are cutted and sewed.

you can go to dollar stores and buy patterns. Or if you're really richo... you can try like Fabricland or something

I used to make some clothes for myself back in the days when I had time for such sillyness. The easiest entrance is to first modify your existing clothes. Once you have ruined your clothes you have to make some by yourself. First copy the forms from existing clothes you like and then once you get the hang of it start experimenting. It is true that the hard bit is making the same clothes look good on other people. It is relatively easy to make one unique piece if you got the patience for it.

My buddy Xavi creates his own clothing because he feels that the store-bought options are all souless and boring. He wants to express his artistic vision not only through his painting but his appearance and everything else he owns as well. It is totally worth a look!

The reason why I would like to try to make my own clothes is because I don't feel quite satisfied with the ones that I find in the local stores. There's always some kind of detail that I don't like or the materials. It would be fun to wear stuff that nobody has and that came out of my head and hands.

Word of advice: there will always be some detail that you don't like, even in the clothes you make yourself - the fact that you have made something actually just makes things worse

Do you think so? Well, that happens with my work... I always think it could be better. But fashion and web design are 2 distinct things... The approach is different, I guess...

Do you really want to start "relauching" your clothes or even your whole wardrobe every two months? It gets out of hand real quick. One off gigs are nice and refreshing, but it is easy to understand why fashion designers tend to wear black all the time.

wearing unique clothes is the best thing to try!
