anyone awake? i'm in Flash MX, trying to save this .fla, and it's saying "not enough memory to complete this operation" -- is there any way i can save this document before my computer unleashes all hell on me? i've quit all excess applications to no avail...
fuck's sake, this sucks.

switch to mac os x. :)
ok... um, if you're on windows 95/98/me, I'd download a copy of memturbo and run that sucker, see if that helps
or clear up some space on the hard drive.

well, too late. MX just crashed, and it corrupted my .fla's that were saved, so i have nothing to go back to. there goes a week's worth of work, and i have a presentation tomorrow...
wonderful

ah, things always end up better when re-done. maybe it was a blessing in disguise...

another reason for 'versioning'.
i used to wonder why this guy i knew had 15 different fla's all of the same thing with only wha seemed to be minor changes.
by the time you get up to myHardWork_v15.fla and your shit crashes.. you'll understand why.
sometimes i dont always remember to do it.. which sucks and i have to always keep a good bit of HD space free.. but in the end.. saving different versions as i go is WAY better then simply saving over the same file.
photoshop was NOTORIOUS for corrupting my files until i started version saving.

too true...
and it's already a new habit of mine

I have had it freeze like that. The way I got around it: if you can, select all layers and copy and paste into a new document. If you have scenes, make sure you copy the frames from those as well. Once you pasted them into a new document. Save. It has worked for me a couple of times. Things are not perfect, you may have to adjust, but at least you will have the core there.
Also, I agree, since this has happened, I do save versions.

I also find that either backing up everything or just saving everything to a separate drive (of server) helps avoid the corruption of files when it crashes.

i keep everything on my laptop because it's stable as a beast. feel more secure knowing that i probably won't have to deal with a fried hard drive or anything of the sort...
the .FLA's weren't actually corrputed, but they disappeared all together!
i used to save constantly, and backup only on occassion, but this is a new lesson learned i guess...

That's happen to me as well.
Here's what I do. First I save every time before I render a preview - command s, command return.
Also like the post back I have a folder called "_clones" in my project folder. Every morning as I start developing my fla I clone a file and dump it in the folder as back-up; sort by date to find the last version. Do the same thing 3 months later when you make revisions so you can always go back.
