Bloomberg guy saying "they need to squeeze even more profit out of their hardware...."

I guess $10.7B profit just isn't cutting it:

    • they will even make their own displays, having control of every component is the goal

but 2020 sounds too early, this nugget might be to wrestle some discounts

    • ...from intelernexbcn
    • timelines seems feasible ... they already develop their own chips for their mobile devices, which are impressive for their size and efficiencymonospaced
    • Changing the codebase from x86 to ARM will be a major undertaking. I'm really not sure they can be as brutal about it as they were when they ditched IBM forzarkonite
    • Intel back in the early 2000s. They have a much bigger ecosystem to support now and pissing off developers might not be what they need considering that Googlezarkonite
    • and MS are very developer friendly. I'm sure they'll come up with something, but a straight switch is out of the question IMO.zarkonite
    • they already did with iOS, zarkmonospaced
    • I'm highly skeptical. Maybe this will push people into Linux for audio apps. No way they're re-writing Logic Pro, which has tons of old code.section_014
    • Plus, I don't see Ableton, Adobe (maybe Adobe), and everyone else re-writing for these fucks.section_014
    • They already are though.monospaced
    • The iOS versions of these apps, while smaller and not fully featured, are certainly the groundwork for such a transition. Been done a few times before.monospaced
    • mono you're downplaying a major hurdle.zarkonite
    • I can see why you might say that, but it's not a hurdle they haven't seen before. They have a lot of the groundwork done with the A-line chips and Metal in iOSmonospaced
    • They can push forward, say goodbye to Intel, optimize for their hardware, and provide legacy support for software that isn't updated (like they did before).monospaced
    • compile to ARM is no big deal, they already do it with clang/llvmernexbcn
    • FFS.. make up your fucking mind already. I actually didn't mind intel chips..autoflavour
