Just to add to the fuckery of the DUP - Tory partnership...

Our local government (a power-sharing agreement between the DUP and Sinn Fein) collapsed a few months ago after Arlene Foster refused to stand down after squandering 480mil of public money on a spectacular miscalculation over a renewable heating scheme...

If they can't re-start parliament by 4pm today NI comes under direct rule from Westminster.

The DUP are refusing to make a deal on protection of the Irish language (which is quite widely spoken here as well as it being the origin of most of our towns/ street names). They are insisting on equal protection for a 'language' called 'Ulster Scots' they basically made up by phoneticising shit farmers say in English because they were jealous of the protection for minority languages granted to Irish via the EU.

Sinn Fein don't take their seats in UK Parliament (they consider themselves an Irish political party, and it wouldn't do them any favours with their voters to represent them in London)

So basically the DUP have gone in to government in the UK and are now deliberately forcing our country to direct rule (what they wanted all along) and Sinn Fein are totally cut off from government in the UK as well as many (actually decent non-partisan) local politicians...

The DUP got 37% of the overall vote, and mostly from rural areas... and from 4pm they're running the place with the Tories.

Two DUP coups in a week! The UK press hasn't even exposed half the corrupt shit these guys have been involved with in the last few years.

I know it's boring as fuck, but please inform yourselves about Northern Ireland and the DUPs involvement in NAMA, RHI, the 'Petition of Concern', women's rights, gay rights, alcohol licensing.

They have fucked us all here, we're on the brink of a return to violence because of their actions and they are positioned to exploit the situation for further political gains... They are compatible to a sectarian religious wing of the BNP and they aren't stupid, they will walk all over the Tories.

    • fucking awful - as I said I have a good friend saying the same things. Hope things don't go the way they are looking. Just so a shack of shit tory govt keeps afadein11
    • small grip on power for now.fadein11
    • My friend lives and is from NI.fadein11
    • i think we're all hoping that the DUPs involvement in UK politics will shed a bit of light on their BS but so far it's only scraped the surface.kingsteven
    • :(fadein11
    • Honest question: How does Sinn Fein ever partner with the DUP if they are trying to outlaw Galiege?garbage
    • they don't partner - it's a power sharing agreement.fadein11
    • they're not in power together like a coalition, the executive is set up so that the biggest irish nationalist and british unionist parties share power...kingsteven
    • they also both have power to veto any law on 'community grounds' with the intention that they'll need to agree to get anything done...kingsteven
    • unfortunately they can generally only agree that they love religion and don't like abortions. bit of a sham parliament but it ensures peace.kingsteven
    • we were just about getting to a point were would have enough non-partisan MLAs to create an opposition. Then Brexit, RHI and this shit...kingsteven
    • Thanks for the insight. Sounds like The Troubles 2: Something Something Boogaloo.garbage
