- ugh. it's not the cylinder shape. look at the strip where you plug shit into. the finish. the fact that it's samsung etc...inteliboy
- Apple should have learned from this - form w/o practicality is a dead end. When all components are squares, it makes sense to make a square!formed
- I agree. Wasn't the form of the Mac Pro all about the cooling system though?monospaced
- yeah, that's the great and all, but with high end video/etc., you need to be able to easily expand/upgradeformed
- so a very cool design exercise, but more to be "cool" than to create a product that is in demand for the high end (beyond putting them on display to be "cool")formed
- Expandability was moved to
Thunderbolt and all exterior. My video editing friends appreciate this because the drives change hands constantly.monospaced - Easier to transfer video by hand than try to do it via the web.monospaced
- and how do they upgrade video cards, etc.,?formed
- moving everything to thunderbolt was a workable idea, but the lack of upgradeability is downright ridiculous.zarkonite
- oh, that yeah... that sucks ... you'd think the case opening like that would allow some swappable parts ... is it totally out of the question?monospaced
- The vid cards are soldered on the mainboard, it's a bummer. If they actually updated their parts it would be ok, I could just order a new more powerful machine.zarkonite
- they're not soldered on ... but the dicks at Apple made them non-standard sizes, so there are no cards that fit the fucking apple-only size :/monospaced
- Exactly. It's "cool", but beyond that a product that went for "cool" over functionality/caring about the market. (is cooling even a concern on a desktop?)formed
- yes, cooling is a concern with that size and with that much power under the hood ... and I couldn't agree more that the video card and cpu should be upgradeablemonospaced
- I think if they went after the market Samsung is going after, or mid market, it would be great, folks there don't upgrade (often) or care about having the bestformed
- Dell (finally) just came out with an XPS that copies Apple's ancient wing-door (surely Apple copied it too, but that's what I remember) expandabilityformed
- which is great given how SSD's and graphic cards are important and rapidly changing againformed
- the old Mac Pros begged to be opened and upgraded, so yeah, it's a departure ... and iMacs easily fill the no-upgrade path really wellmonospaced
