@Georges, I think the idea of using separate lenses to capture different focal depths, and combining them for this, is yes, new to phone cameras..

    well nope it's not,

" introducing two very different dual-camera systems that nevertheless signal the direction that the entire industry is about to head in. Apple's iPhone 7 Plus is rumored to be following their lead later this year. One day soon, we’ll look at dual-camera phones the way we think of dual-core devices today: just a logical progression with nothing remarkable about it."

    • yep, it's basically all catchup - my note 4 does the depth of field thing perfectly well with one camera anyway lol - and has done so for the past 2 years.fadein11
    • That is very cool. I don't know if those dual lens approaches were for the same depth of focus result though. Cool nonetheless.monospaced
    • it really weirds me out when year after year apple pretends to be the most innovative brand by just applying technologies other brands have field tested..GeorgesII
    • Looks like they just used the second lens for zoom or just higher quality, but if they used it to combine for depth of focus, I haven't seen that.monospaced
    • yup... but the power of the brand + uninformed consumer who will never question it = $$$$$fadein11
    • Like literally the only reason why you would use a second optic http://www.cnet.com/…GeorgesII
