It's an argument for stronger compression for 2x assets.
- Heard about this and did my own testing. It's BS. You get ugly posterization/colour shifts at high compression.monNom
- JPG actually blurs the image to compress it more so you're doubling blurry pixels. Might work for some specific cases, but try it with a sky. uglymonNom
- better to scale up high-quality IMO. it's a little blurry but colour fidelity is way better. And it seems like browsers will sharpen after resize.monNom
- Interesting. I've had excellent results with typical white-background product photos. I can see how a gradient or sky would not work as well.nb
